  1. 16. Retrieving cloud ice masses from geostationary images with neural networks

    Författare :Adrià Amell Tosas; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; machine learning; geostationary satellites; ice clouds;

    Sammanfattning : Clouds are essential to the Earth's energy budget and atmospheric circulation. Despite this, many cloud parameters are poorly known, including the mass of frozen hydrometeors. On the one hand, there will be specialized satellite missions targeting such hydrometeors. On the other hand, existing satellite data can be leveraged. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Studies of the Decay η→π+π-π0 with WASA-at-COSY

    Författare :Patrik Adlarson; Jozef Zlomanczuk; Bo Höistad; Fabio Bossi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hadron physics; Chiral Perturbation Theory; Isospin violation; Quark masses; Symmetries; Advanced Instrumentation; Nuclear Physics; Kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : In 2008 a large statistics sample of approximately 1·107 η-decays has been collected with the WASA detector at COSY using the pd→3Heη reaction at the beam kinetic energy of 1 GeV. These data are being used to study the not so rare η decays involving charged pions, like η→π+π-π0. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Scale and Stress Effects on Hydro-Mechanical Properties of Fractured Rock Masses

    Författare :Alireza Baghbanan; Lanru Jing; Jian Zhao; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aperture-trace length correlation; Discrete Fracture Network DFN ; Representative Elementary Volume REV ; Strength; Stress-Strain curve; Discrete Element Method DEM ; Stress effect; Deformability of fractures; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the effects of size and stress on permeability, deformability and strength of fractured rock masses are investigated. A comparison study was carried out to examine the effects of considering, or not considering, the correlation between distributions of fracture apertures and fracture trace lengths on the hydro-mechanical behavior of fractured rocks.
