  1. 6. Predictive Modelling of Aquatic Ecosystems at Different Scales using Mass Balances and GIS

    Författare :Andreas Gyllenhammar; Lars Håkanson; Lars Brydsten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; mass balance model; dynamic model; scales; marine fish farms; rainbow trout; nutrients; suspended particulate matter; phosphorus; nitrogen; GIS; basin delineation; regionalisation; coastal areas; aquatic foodweb; fishing quotas; Baltic Sea; Archipelago Sea; Okavango Delta; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents models applicable for aquatic ecosystems. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) form an important part of the thesis. The dynamic mass balance models focus on nutrient fluxes, biotic/abiotic interactions and operate on different temporal and spatial scales (site, local, regional and international). LÄS MER

  2. 7. Mass transfer and slag-metal reaction in ladle refining : a CFD approach

    Författare :Eva Ramström; Du Sichen; Mselly Nozotta; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reoxidation; desulphurisation; CFD; ladle treatment; model; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning :   In order to optimise the ladle treatment mass transfer modelling of aluminium addition and homogenisation time was carried out. It was stressed that incorporating slag-metal reactions into the mass transfer modelling strongly would enhance the reliability and amount of information to be analyzed from the CFD calculations. 3. 8. Simplifying complex models : Application of modeling tools in exposure assessment of organic pollutants

    Författare :Emma Undeman; Michael McLachlan; Kathrin Fenner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mass balance model; environmental modeling; exposure modeling; bioaccumulation; organic contaminants; emission estimate; plant model; steady state; poly parameter linear free energy relationship; PPLFER; ecosystem susceptibility; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Persistent organic compounds; Persistenta organiska föreningar; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Thousands of chemicals are used in society, but the exposure to humans and other organisms has been measured only for a small number of compounds. Modeling tools constitute low-cost and effective alternatives to measurements for the assessment of exposure. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Simulation of Phosphorus, Zinc and Cadmium Mass Flow in Dairy Farming Systems

    Författare :Anna-Karin Modin Edman; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering; Miljöstudier; Environmental studies; management; Cd; Zn; P; mass balance; system analysis; simulation;

    Sammanfattning : A simulation model, FARMFLOW, was developed for the calculation of phosphorus (P), zinc (Zn) and cadmium (Cd) stocks, flows and balances in different parts of a dairy farming system. The simulated continuous change in element stocks within the farming system enables evaluation of the long-term effects of management practices. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Air mass boundary identification : improvement of precipitation phase determination in surface based modeling

    Författare :James Feiccabrino; Per-Erik Jansson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Snowpack properties derived from hydrological models play an important role for many ecological, water resource, and climate applications; such as winter survival of plants, reindeer, small mammals and birds, avalanche hazards, glaciers and polar ice accumulation, growth of sea and lake ices, climate change, snow melt flooding etc. These hydrological models need accurate precipitation phase discrimination schemes to closely portray e.
