16. Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy in Brain Tumors - Clinical Applications
Sammanfattning : Aims: · to present a test phantom and test method for evaluation of proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) single volume localization techniques regarding signal contamination; · to describe the introduction of 1H-MRS in the daily routine of a standard MR-unit; · to evaluate the possibilities offered by 1H-MRS to improve preoperative diagnostic accuracy in patients scheduled for stereotactic biopsy of intracranial mass lesions; · to evaluate the possibilities offered by 1H-MRS to improve diagnostics and therapy control in patients with brain abscesses; · to test the hypothesis that 1H-MRS might be useful for differentiation of brain tumors, based on metabolic changes in tissue across brain lesions or surrounding tissue. Results and conclusions: · The test phantom and test method allow quality assessment with good reproducibility. LÄS MER
17. Radiomics in cancer prognosis : applications and limitations of quantitative texture analysis
Sammanfattning : Medical imaging has become an integral part of clinical diagnostics since the discovery of X- rays at the end of the 19th century. Recent advances in computing power have opened up the possibility to extract quantitative data from medical images beyond what is visible to the human eye, so-called radiomics. LÄS MER
18. 11C Molecular Imaging in Focal Epilepsy
Sammanfattning : Epilepsy is a common neurological disease affecting 6 million people in Europe. Early prevention and accurate diagnosis and treatment are of importance to obtain seizure freedom. In this thesis new applications of carbon-11-labelled tracers in PET and autoradiographic studies were explored in focal epilepsy. LÄS MER
19. p16INK4A and p15INK4B in senescence, immortalization and cancer : gene transfer by adenovirus vectors
Sammanfattning : The astrocytic gliomas are the most common form of brain tumors in humans. The malignant progression from low grade (astrocytoma, grade II) to high-grade (glioblastoma multiforme, grade, IV) astrocytomas is well documented and is accompanied by an increasing number of genetic aberrations. 20. Liquid biopsies in pediatric oncology : towards clinical implementation
Sammanfattning : During the last few years, liquid biopsies based on cell-free DNA (cfDNA) have become approved for clinical use in several areas of adult oncology. Due to the minimally invasive nature of this procedure, liquid biopsies could serve many purposes in childhood oncology as well. LÄS MER
