6. Experimental Studies on the Vasculature of Endogenous and Transplanted Islets of Langerhans
Sammanfattning : The blood vessels of the pancreatic islets are of crucial importance for oxygen and metabolite supply as well as dispersal of secreted hormones. In addition to this, endothelial cells have an important role in the revascularization process after islet transplantation. LÄS MER
7. Human amnion epithelial stem cells as a therapy for liver disease
Sammanfattning : Placenta-derived stem cells have been proposed as potential new treatments for acute and congenital liver diseases. Of all the different perinatal tissues, amnion membrane and isolated amnion epithelial cells have been shown to be an outstanding readily available source of multipotent stem cells. LÄS MER
8. Isolation and characterization of adult neural stem cells
Sammanfattning : Injury to the central nervous system (CNS) is one of man's most handicapping situations resulting in severe functional impairment and in some cases a vegetative state where life is supported artificially. The brain and spinal cord, constituting the CNS, have been viewed for decades as having limited capacity of regeneration with no neurogenesis in the adult. LÄS MER
9. Studies of leukotriene C4 synthase isoenzymes and the cysteinyl leukotrine receptors in human endothelial- and mast cells
Sammanfattning : Leukotriene (LT) C4, the parent compound of LTD4 and LTE4, is generated when LTA4 is conjugated with GSH by either leukotriene C4 synthase (LTC4S) or microsomal GSH S-transferase (MGST) type 2 or 3. Together these lipid mediators cause contractions particularly in airway smooth muscle and the microcirculation, leading to bronchconstriction, plasma extravasation and edema formation as well as increased mucus secretion from epithelial cells and recruitment of inflammatory cells. 10. Detection of donor cells in recipient tissues after stem cell transplantation using FISH and immunophenotyping
Sammanfattning : Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is curative therapy for many malignant and non-malignant diseases. Effective conditioning regimen is an important component of HSCT in order to achieve a successful engraftment and to pursue a curative treatment. Conditioning regimens consist of chemotherapy with or without total body irradiation. LÄS MER
