16. The importance of endothelin-1 for vascular function in patients with atherosclerosis and healthy controls
Sammanfattning : Background: Atherosclerosis is associated with endothelial dysfunction, which is an early sign with prognostic implications in patients with coronary artery disease. Atherosclerosis is also associated with enhanced expression of the vasoconstrictor peptide endothelin-1 (ET-1). LÄS MER
17. Isolation and characterization of genes within the region for multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 on chromosome 11q13
Sammanfattning : This thesis summarizes the investigations of three genes isolated from the locus for multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) within the chromosomal region 11q13. As a common strategy for all three genes, the cDNA was sequenced, the genomic structure characterized, and the expression pattern analyzed by Northern blotting on human tissues and by in situ RNA hybridization on slides from rodent embryos. 18. RP59 : a novel stem cell protein and mapping of its expression
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to study the expression pattern of a novel protein daring developmental processes. Firstly we identified so far unknown mRNA sequences coding for frequently expressed proteins in primitive mesenchymal cells in bone marrow and osteoblasts. LÄS MER
19. The enzymatic machinery of leukotriene biosynthesis : Studies on ontogenic expression, interactions and function
Sammanfattning : Leukotrienes (LTs) are biologically active arachidonic acid (AA) derivatives generated by the 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) pathway. They are produced by myeloid cells. 5-LO converts AA to LTA4 in cooperation with 5-LO activating protein (FLAP). LTA4 is converted to LTB4, by LTA4-hydrolase (LTA4H) or to LTC4 by LTC4-synthase (LTC4S). LÄS MER
20. The role of Shb in ES cell differentiation, angiogenesis and tumor growth
Sammanfattning : Shb is a ubiquitously expressed adaptor protein with the ability to bind several tyrosine kinase receptors and intracellular signaling proteins. Previous studies have implied a wide spectrum of Shb-mediated cellular responses, which motivated me to further investigate the role of Shb in differentiation and angiogenesis. LÄS MER
