16. SUMO and ubiquitin : the yin and yang of IGF-1R function
Sammanfattning : Tumorigenesis is a multistep process involving genetic and epigenetic alterations that drive the progressive transformation of normal human cells into highly malignant derivatives. The insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R) plays pivotal roles in cancer. LÄS MER
17. Molecular factors relevant to the radiosensitivity of human tumours
Sammanfattning : Oncogenes, activated copies of normal cellular genes, are involved in carcinogenesis and have been suggested to be determinants of cellular radiosensitivity (RS). Mutations and gene rearrangement of c-Ha-RAS and c-MYC oncogenes were analysed in 70 biopsies and 51 blood samples from the same patients and compared with RS estimated by the clinical tumour response and by response to irradiation of tumour samples using subrenal capsule assay. 18. Genotyping RNA and DNA using padlock probes
Sammanfattning : Novel techniques are needed to investigate the genetic variation revealed in the first draft of the human genome sequence. Padlock probes are recently developed reagents, suitable for detecting single-nucleotide variations of DNA and RNA in situ or in solution. LÄS MER
19. Modulation of nuclear receptor signaling by RBR ubiquitin ligases
Sammanfattning : Nuclear receptors (NRs) constitute a superfamily of transcription factors and play important roles in physiology. Transcriptional regulation by NRs can be modulated through interactions with various coregulators that activate or repress transcription through mediating receptor and chromatin modifications as well as communicating with the general transcription factor machinery. 20. Functional characterization of the human adenovirus pVII protein and non-coding VA RNAI
Sammanfattning : Human adenovirus (HAdV) is a common pathogen causing a broad spectrum of diseases. HAdV encodes the pVII protein, which is involved in nuclear delivery, protection and expression of viral DNA. To suppress the cellular interferon (IFN) and RNA interference (RNAi) systems, HAdVs encode non-coding virus-associated (VA) RNAs. LÄS MER
