1. Acute Pulmonary Embolism : not just an acute condition after all
Sammanfattning : Background: Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is the third most common cardiovascular disease following myocardial infarction and stroke. Despite diagnostic improvements, the diagnosis of PE is still associated with many difficulties, as the symptoms of an acute PE are nonspecific. LÄS MER
2. Inflammation and cortisol response in coronary artery disease
Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is characterized by a chronic inflammation, involving autoimmune components, in the arterial wall. An increase in proinflammatory activity relative to anti-inflammatory activity is considered to cause a progression of the disease towards plaque instability and risk of atherothrombotic events, such as acute coronary syndrome (ACS). 3. Atherosclerosis and Insulin Resistance AIR A cross-sectional study of 58-year old men
Sammanfattning : The main aim of the study was to test the hypothesis that insulin resistance is associated with atherosclerotic disease in the carotid and femoral arteries as measured using the ultrasound technique in clinically healthy 58-year old men with varying degrees of obesity and insulin resistance. The subjects were recruited from the general population and were free from clinical cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus and treatment with antihypertensive, lipid-lowering and anti-diabetic drugs (n=818). 4. Childhood Body Mass Index and Pubertal Timing - Changes over time and associations with adult cardiovascular mortality
Sammanfattning : Puberty in boys has long been an under-investigated area of research mainly due to the lack of an easily available pubertal marker, corresponding to menarche for girls. Using a unique, large, population-based cohort, this thesis targets some of the knowledge gaps regarding puberty and BMI change during puberty in boys. LÄS MER
5. Roles of Androgens in Cardiovascular Physiology and Pathophysiology
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Atherosclerosis is the major underlying cause of cardiovascular disease, such as myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke, and these conditions are the leading causes of death both in Sweden and globally. The immune system is involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis as well as post-MI cardiac injury. LÄS MER
