  1. 26. Intracranial Compliance and Secondary Brain Damage. Experimental and Clinical Studies in Traumatic Head Injury

    Författare :Konstantin Salci; Per Enblad; Pelle Nilsson; Peter Hutchinsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Neurosciences; Traumatic brain injury; Intracranial compliance; Secondary insults; Microdialysis; Neurointensive care; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) renders the brain more vulnerable to secondary insults. The increased vulnerability can probably be explained by a combination of disturbances in hemodynamics, metabolism and craniospinal dynamics. Reduced ability to compensate for added intracranial volume, i.e. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Early Physiotherapy in the Neurointensive Care Unit - Passive Physiotherapy Interventions

    Författare :Annelie Thelandersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiotherapy; Brain injury; Stroke; Intensive care unit; Prone position; Range of motion; Continuous passive motion; Intra cranial pressure; Cerebral perfuison pressure; Haemodynamics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: In critically ill patients, treated in the neurointensive care unit (NICU) because of severe brain injury or stroke, physical activities have been restricted to a minimum due to the potential risks of complications and adverse events. Nevertheless, passive physiotherapy treatments are widely used without conclusive evidence for their safety. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Clinical evaluation of an adjustable cerebrospinal fluid shunt valve

    Författare :Göran Zemack; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Surgery; Cost analysis; Codman Hakim programmable valve; Pressure adjustable shunt valve; Cerebrospinal fluid shunt; Idiopathic intracranial hypertension; Hydrocephalus; Arachnoid cyst;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Shunting systems are implanted for draining cerebrospinal fluid to treat hydrocephalus, intracranial cysts, and idiopathic intracranial hypertension. Most shunt systems include a valve which regulates drainage. A differential pressure valve opens when intracranial pressure exceeds the valve’s opening pressure. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Traumatic brain injury in elderly patients

    Författare :Samuel Lenell; Per Enblad; Anders Lewén; Alfonso Lagares; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Traumatic brain injury; Elderly; Outcome; Standardized neurosurgical intensive care; Quality register; Prognostic factors; Secondary insults; Neurointensive care monitoring; Pressure reactivity index; Optimal cerebral perfusion pressure; Cerebral autoregulation; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : The increase of elderly traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients constitutes a considerable challenge. The aim was therefore to specifically study elderly TBI patients with respect to patient characteristics, neurointensive care (NIC) and outcome, and to identify age specific features, which may be important for selection of patients and optimization of NIC in the elderly. 5. 30. Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in the Elderly

    Författare :Mats Ryttlefors; Per Enblad; Kristina Cesarini; David Mendelow; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; subarachnoid hemorrhage; intracranial aneurysm; elderly; outcome; endovascular coiling; neurosurgical clipping; secondary insult; cerebral vasospasm; Neurosurgery; Neurokirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a disease with high risk of mortality and morbidity. Elderly patients have an even higher risk of poor outcome. The incidence of SAH increases with age and the elderly constitute a substantial and increasing proportion of the population. Thus, the management of elderly SAH patients is an imminent clinical challenge. LÄS MER
