  1. 1. Glycolytic oscillations in individual yeast cells

    Författare :Anna-Karin Gustavsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Optical manipulation; Microfluidics; Fluorescence microscopy; Single cell analysis; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Glycolysis; Oscillations; NADH; Heterogeneity; Synchronization; Robustness; Universality;

    Sammanfattning : Oscillations in the concentration of yeast glycolytic intermediates have been intensively studied since the 1950s, but these studies have so far been limited to observations of average oscillatory behavior in synchronized cultures. Hence, it has remained unknown whether the onset of oscillations is a collective property of the population which requires a high cell density, or if individual cells can oscillate also in isolation. 2. 2. Equality of opportunity, heterogeneity and poverty

    Författare :William Nilsson; Karl-Gustaf Löfgren; Tomas Sjögren; Anders Björklund; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Economics; Equality of opportunity; Semiparametric; Poverty; Heterogeneity; State dependence; Twins; Unemployment; Divorce; Spousal response; Selection; Panel data; Nationalekonomi; Economics; Nationalekonomi; nationalekonomi; Economics;

    Sammanfattning : Paper [I] studies equality of opportunity in Sweden. The distinction between circumstances that constrain an individual’s opportunities and the individual choices also affecting a particular outcome is the main idea of theories of equality of opportunity. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Beyond Generative Sufficiency : On Interactions, Heterogeneity & Middle-Range Dynamics

    Författare :Martin Arvidsson; Peter Hedström; Marc Keuschnigg; Duncan Watts; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Collective dynamics; Social networks; Heterogeneity; Digital trace data; Agent-based simulation; Social mechanisms; Analytical sociology; Computational social science;

    Sammanfattning : Explaining how properties at the level of individuals translate into properties at the level of collectives is a core objective of sociology. Because the social world is characterized by complex webs of social interdependencies, establishing how micro and macro are related to one another requires a detailed understanding of how individuals are influenced by their social environments and the consequences that such influences have for the dynamics of the social process. 4. 4. The Heterogeneity of Behavior in Operations Processes : Empirical Evidence

    Författare :Neslihan Özlü; Fredrik Eng Larsson; Thomas Hartman; Olov Isaksson; Kai Hoberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; behavioral operations; empirical operations; heterogeneity; experience effects; ordering decisions; choice models; judgmental forecasting; operations processes; Business Administration; företagsekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : Behavioral science research has established that observed human behavior may deviate considerably from model suggestions. In addition to the realization that there is no such thing as standardized human behavior, there are also substantial differences in how people deviate from the model: Different individuals make dissimilar decisions in the same situation when using the same information. 5. 5. Experimental studies on multidrug resistance in human leukaemia : role of cellular heterogeneity for daunorubicin kinetics

    Författare :Eva Knaust; Curt Peterson; Anna Porwit-MacDonald; Astrid Gruber; Christer Paul; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Acute myeloid leukaemia; heterogeneity; multidrug resistance. transport kinetics flow cytometry; gene expression; mdr1; mrp; lrp; apoptosis. bcl-2; p53; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Cellular resistance to chemotherapy is a major cause of treatment failure in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and still the majority of the patients die from their disease. Drug resistance 1s multifactorial, the most studied mechanism being multidrug resistance (MDR), mediated by the P-glycoprotein (Pgp). LÄS MER
