  1. 1. Experimental studies on multidrug resistance in human leukaemia : role of cellular heterogeneity for daunorubicin kinetics

    Författare :Eva Knaust; Curt Peterson; Anna Porwit-MacDonald; Astrid Gruber; Christer Paul; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Acute myeloid leukaemia; heterogeneity; multidrug resistance. transport kinetics flow cytometry; gene expression; mdr1; mrp; lrp; apoptosis. bcl-2; p53; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Cellular resistance to chemotherapy is a major cause of treatment failure in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and still the majority of the patients die from their disease. Drug resistance 1s multifactorial, the most studied mechanism being multidrug resistance (MDR), mediated by the P-glycoprotein (Pgp). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Molecular heterogeneity of prostate cancer bone metastasis

    Författare :Erik Bovinder Ylitalo; Pernilla Wikström; Anders Bergh; Maria Brattsand; Vessela Kristensen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; CRPC; castration-resistant; androgen receptor; splice variant; abiraterone; cabazitaxel; ABCB1; cholesterol; Mdr1; P-gp; bone metastasis; immune response; metabolism; osteoblast; osteoclast; BMP; methylation;

    Sammanfattning : Castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) develops after androgen deprivation therapy of advanced PC, often with metastatic growth in bone. Patients with metastatic CRPC have very poor prognosis. Growth of CRPC, in most but not all patients, seems to involve androgen receptor (AR) activity, despite castrate levels of serum testosterone. 3. 3. Studies on intrinsic and extrinsic sources of variability in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics

    Författare :Johanna Mercke Odeberg; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; toxikologi; pharmacy; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; genetic polymorphisms UGT1A-and MDR1 gene ; indirect response model; desmopressin; oral lipid based formulations; farmaci; Farmakologi; toxicology; farmakognosi;

    Sammanfattning : Variability in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters between individuals can be due to intrinsic and extrinsic factors. In this thesis three different areas regarding sources of variability have been investigated. 1. Formulation properties as an extrinsic source of variability. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Transport proteins in mammary epithelial cells : studies in murine (HC11) and bovine (BME-UV) cells - effects of prochloraz

    Författare :Yagmur Yagdiran; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Transporters localized in membranes of secreting mammary epithelial cells are involved in delivery of essential nutrients into milk. However, drugs and other xenobiotics may be substrates of these transporters and thus be actively secreted into milk, which may pose a health threat to breastfed infants and dairy consumers. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On the roles of genes in Parkinson's disease

    Författare :Marie Westerlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder which affects 1% of the population over the age of 60. In order to identify candidate genes with a potential role in Parkinson’s disease pathology, we investigated genes which are involved in protein aggregation and the ubiquitin‐proteasome system (α‐synuclein and ubiquitin carboxy‐terminal hydrolase L1, UCH‐L1), oxidative stress (DJ‐1), mitochondrial function (mitochondrial transcription factor A, TFAM), regulation of drug/toxin levels (multi‐drug resistance 1, MDR1 and alcohol and aldehyde dehydrogenases, ADH and ALDHs), as well as a gene with unknown function, but highly implicated in Parkinson’s disease genetics (leucine‐rich repeat kinase 2, LRRK2).
