11. Fruit tree-based agroforestry on sloping uplands in northwest Vietnam: Effects on soil conservation, tree-crop performance and weed management
Sammanfattning : On sloping land, agroforestry can be a more sustainable way to produce food andother products and services than sole-crop cultivation of crops. This thesis examinedwhether fruit tree-based agroforestry on smallholder farms on sloping uplands canhave a positive impact on sustainability. LÄS MER
12. Hierarchical responses to organic contaminants in aquatic ecotoxicological bioassays: from microcystins to biodegradation
Sammanfattning : In this thesis I explore the ecotoxicological responses of aquatic organisms at different hierarchical levels to organic contaminants by means of bioassays. The bioassays use novel endpoints or approaches to elucidate the effects of exposure to contaminants and attempt to give mechanistic explanations that could be used to interpret effects at higher hierarchical scales. 13. Dormancy in reproductive vegetative buds in creeping perennials dominating the agricultural weed flora in Scandinavia
Sammanfattning : Dormancy, which is the inability to initiate normal growth under otherwise favourable conditions, is an adaptation to escape sprouting prior to seasonal cold temperatures and/or drought in areas where winters are harsh or summers dry. Dormancy in woody perennials of northern temperate areas is, in general, induced by photoperiodic and/or temperature changes, and released after prolonged exposure to chilling. LÄS MER
14. Impact and control of weeds in biomass willow clones
Sammanfattning : Willow (Salix spp.) grown on arable land as short-rotation coppice (SRC) produces renewable energy in the form of woody biomass. This perennial crop has a high ratio of energy output to input and a good environmental profile. However, weed control is mostly dependent on herbicide use. LÄS MER
15. Modelling climate change impacts on pesticide leaching : uncertainty and scenario analysis at field and regional scales
Sammanfattning : Climate change projections for Sweden indicate increases in both temperature and precipitation. In a warmer and wetter climate, weed and pest pressures are likely to increase, which might in turn trigger an increased use of pesticides. LÄS MER
