  1. 1. Pheromonal Mediated Behaviour and Endocrine Responses in Salmonids : The impact of Cypermethrin, Copper, and Glyphosate

    Författare :Alia Jaensson; Ingvar Brandt; Håkan Olsen; Kjell Döving; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cypermethrin; copper; glyphosate; behaviour; hormones; pheromones; olfaction; 11-ketotestosterone 11-KT ; 17α; 20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one 17; 20β-P ; reproduction; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Sammanfattning : The effects of cypermethrin, copper and glyphosate on the endocrine system and subsequent response to female pheromones were investigated in mature male brown trout (Salmo trutta) parr.  Responses measured were the amount of strippable milt, blood plasma levels of both an androgen (11-ketotestosterone (11-KT)) and a progestin (17α,20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (17,20b-P)), and behavioural changes. 2. 2. Modeling of glyphosate and metal-glyphosate speciation in solution and at solution-mineral interfaces

    Författare :Caroline Jonsson; Staffan Sjöberg; Per Persson; Bernd Nowack; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; herbicide; glyphosate; surface complexation model; speciation; goethite; aged gamma-alumina; bayerite; manganite; cadmium II ; aluminium III ; potentiometric titration; adsorption; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Glyphosate (N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine, PMG, H3L) is a widely used organophosphorous herbicide. It interacts with metal ions and mineral surfaces, which may affect its mobility, degradation and bioavailability in the environment. However, these interactions are far from fully understood. 3. 3. Hierarchical responses to organic contaminants in aquatic ecotoxicological bioassays: from microcystins to biodegradation

    Författare :Katia Montenegro; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; grazing efficiency; potential trade-off; glyphosate mineralization; DDE; potential denitrification; microcystin production; potential nitrification; DDE biodegradation; water stable isotopes; groundwater apparent age; fenthion; Chlorophyta; Daphnia pulex; diversity productivity relationship; glyphosate;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I explore the ecotoxicological responses of aquatic organisms at different hierarchical levels to organic contaminants by means of bioassays. The bioassays use novel endpoints or approaches to elucidate the effects of exposure to contaminants and attempt to give mechanistic explanations that could be used to interpret effects at higher hierarchical scales. 4. 4. Chemical Processes at the Water-Manganite (γ-MnOOH) Interface

    Författare :Madeleine Ramstedt; Staffan Sjöberg; Per Persson; Lars Lövgren; Steven A. Banwart; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; manganite; γ-MnOOH; mineral surface; acid-base properties; adsorption; Cd II ; N- phosphonomethyl glycine; glyphosate; PMG; surface complex; dissolution; disproportionation; XPS; EXAFS; infrared spectroscopy; SEM; AFM; potentiometry; electrophoresis; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi; oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The chemistry of mineral surfaces is of great importance in many different areas including natural processes occurring in oceans, rivers, lakes and soils. Manganese (hydr)oxides are one important group to these natural processes, and the thermodynamically most stable trivalent manganese (hydr)oxide, manganit (γ-MnOOH), is studied in this thesis. 5. 5. Molecular Breeding of Sugar Beet, Transformation, Transgene silencing, Virus and Herbicide resistance

    Författare :Marie Mannerlöf; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Agrobacterium tumefaciens; BNYVV; coat protein; CP4epsps; gene silencing; glyphosate; herbicide; rhizomania; transformation; sugar beet; Beta vulgaris L.; virus; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The main objectives in sugar beet breeding, are to improve yield, quality and to develop disease resistance. The disease resistance may be developed either by conventional, or molecular breeding techniques. The molecular breeding techniques include, methods to genetically engineer plants for expression of introduced genes. LÄS MER
