6. Within-species variation in grass weeds in Sweden : dormancy, herbicide response, genetic relationships
Sammanfattning : Variation within a weed species enables it to persist through varying conditions and is thus an important component of weediness. In this thesis, intra-specific variation in two agronomically important attributes - herbicide susceptibility and seed dormancy - are studied in Swedish Apera spica-venti (L.) Beauv. and Alopecurus myosuroides Huds. LÄS MER

8. Measuring and modelling parameters from hyperspectral sensors for site-specific crop protection
Sammanfattning : This thesis sought to optimise systems for plant protection in precision agriculture through developing a field method for estimating crop status parameters from hyperspectral sensors, and an empirical model for estimating the required herbicide dose in different parts of the field. The hyperspectral reflectance measurements in the open field took the form of instantaneous spectra recording using an existing method called feature vector based analysis (FVBA), which was applied on disease severity. 9. Bioaugmentation for reduction of diffuse pesticide contamination : a bioprophylactic concept
Sammanfattning : Pesticides and their residues frequently contaminate surface waters and groundwater so consequently there is a great need to identify methods and practices that reduce such contamination. This thesis examined the potential of a 'bioprophylactic' concept based on the hypothesis that diffuse contamination after application in the field can be significantly reduced if pesticides are degraded as rapidly as possible after the intended effect has been achieved. 10. Uptake and toxicity of brominated flame retardants and pesticides : Studies on littoral organisms and model communities
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, brackish and freshwater littoral model communities (microcosms) of varying size and complexity were used to study the effects of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and pesticides. The brackish water microcosms consisted of natural water, sediment and associated organisms, while the larger freshwater microcosms also contained submersed macrophytes (Elodea canadensis). LÄS MER
