  1. 1. Hierarchical responses to organic contaminants in aquatic ecotoxicological bioassays: from microcystins to biodegradation

    Författare :Katia Montenegro; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; grazing efficiency; potential trade-off; glyphosate mineralization; DDE; potential denitrification; microcystin production; potential nitrification; DDE biodegradation; water stable isotopes; groundwater apparent age; fenthion; Chlorophyta; Daphnia pulex; diversity productivity relationship; glyphosate;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I explore the ecotoxicological responses of aquatic organisms at different hierarchical levels to organic contaminants by means of bioassays. The bioassays use novel endpoints or approaches to elucidate the effects of exposure to contaminants and attempt to give mechanistic explanations that could be used to interpret effects at higher hierarchical scales. 2. 2. Nitrogen removal in treatment wetlands : Factors influencing spatial and temporal variations

    Författare :Sofia Kallner Bastviken; Karin Sundblad-Tonderski; Jos Verhoeven; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wetlands; denitrification; macrophytes; nitrogen; nitrification; model; treatment wetlands; potential denitrification; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Decreasing the nitrogen transport from land to surrounding seas is a major task throughout the world to limit eutrophication of the coastal areas. Several approaches are currently used, including the establishment of wetlands, to decrease the transport of nitrogen. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Inhibition of Nitrification in Municipal Wastewater - Sources, Effects, Evaluation and Remedies

    Författare :Karin Jönsson; Vattenförsörjnings- och avloppsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental technology; Wastewater; Toxicity; Nitrification; Inhibition; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp;

    Sammanfattning : Today, as a rule, the most cost-effective way to remove nitrogen from municipal wastewater is the biological method based on nitrification and subsequent denitrification. All biological systems may be affected by toxicants, and biological nitrogen removal is no exception. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Risk of nitrous oxide emissions and potential of bioaugmentation when treating digester supernatant via nitrification-denitrification

    Författare :Fredrik Stenström; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :Bioaugmentation; Digester supernatant; Inoculation; Nitrification-denitrification; Nitrifiers; Nitrous oxide emissions; Reject water; Bioaugmentation; Digester supernatant; Inoculation; Nitrification-denitrification; Nitrifiers; Nitrous oxide emissions; Reject water;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines two different impacts of sidestream treatment of digester supernatant via nitrification-denitrification in a sequenced batch reactor (SBR). One of the impacts is the detrimental formation of nitrous oxide, and the other is the positive boosting of nitrifiers to the mainstream process through bioaugmentation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Uptake of and Preference for Nitrate, Ammonium and Amino Acids by Understory Species in Deciduous Forests

    Författare :Magnus Zätterström; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Soil Science; agricultural hydrology; Lantbrukshydrologi; marklära; Fixation of nitrogen; Kvävefixering; Växtekologi; Plant ecology; wild plants.; understory; rhizosphere; preference; oak forests; NRA; nitrification; nitrate; delta15N; 15N; glutamate; glycine; drying-rewetting; amino acids; ammonium;

    Sammanfattning : AbstractThe uptake of different nitrogen forms by understory species was studied in field and laboratory. Species of the understory in deciduous forests have previously been thought to take up and assimilate only inorganic nitrogen sources. LÄS MER
