  1. 1. Effects of Dehydration and Blockade of the Renin-Angiotensin System in the One-humped Camel (Camelus dromedarius)

    Författare :Mahmoud Al Haj; Fred Nyberg; Santi Spampinato; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood; biochemical analysis; catecholamine; colorimetric assay; cortisol; dehydration; dromedary camel; glutathione; hematological analysis; HPLC; insulin- like growth factor-1; losartan; plasma; receptors; radioimmunoassay; serum; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The one-humped or the dromedarian camel is a pseudo-ruminant mammal, well adapted to the hot and dry climates of the desert. Its ability to withstand torrid heat and extreme desiccation is of paramount importance to its survival. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Bacteremia in patients with hematological malignancies and neutropenia

    Författare :Carl Aust; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : For hematological cancer patients, the risk of blood stream infection by bacterial pathogens is increased. Studies on pathogen panorama, efficacy of antimicrobial prophylaxis and antimicrobial resistance are important efforts to decrease morbidity, mortality and the risk of delays or reduction of intensity in cancer treatment. 3. 3. Cardiovascular and hematological responses to voluntary apnea in humans

    Författare :Robert de Bruijn; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organism biology; Organismbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with cardiovascular and hematological responses to voluntary apnea in humans, with a special focus on O2 usage and storage. Humans, and many other air‐breathing animals, respond to apnea (breath holding) with a collection of interacting cardiovascular reflexes, which are collectively called the diving response. LÄS MER

  4. 4. In vitro studies on anti-leukemic effects of tetracycline's analogues and cyclophosphamide

    Författare :Mona Fares; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Leukemia is a heterogeneous group of hematological malignancies that originate from the bone marrow. Leukemias are classified as acute or chronic. Although acute leukemia affects patients of all ages, acute lymphoid leukemia is predominant in children and young adults while acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is predominant in the elderly. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Standardization and application of quantitative PCR methods in patients with hematological malignancies

    Författare :Maria Malec; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Polymerase chain reaction; RQ-PCR; Minimal Residual Disease; Acute leukemia; Hodgkin s Lymphoma; cytokines;

    Sammanfattning : Using modem combination chemotherapy regimens, it has been possible to increase the rate of complete remission (CR) in acute lymphoblastic (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The major reason for treatment failure in acute leukemia (AL) is the resistance of leukemic blasts to chemotherapeutic agents, which is accompanied by an inability of the immune system to eradicate residual leukemic cells surviving initial treatment.
