  1. 1. Human intraepithelial lymphocytes : a comparative study of phenotype, morphology, and functional properties of intraepithelial lymphocytes in gut and oral mucosa

    Författare :Carina Lundqvist; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Sten Hammarström; Per Brandtzaeg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human intraepithelial lymphocytes; alimentary tract; intestinal epithelium; gut luminal antigens; gingiva; γδ T cells; immunoelectron microscopy; cytokine mRNA; RT-PCR; extrathymic T cell maturation; RAG-1; periodontitis; mucosal immune system; CD4-CD8- αβ T cells; CD8 γδ T cells;

    Sammanfattning : Human intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL) constitute a unique cell population situated in the first line of defense of the alimentary tract. Here they are continuously exposed to a massive antigenic load of high complexity. However, different conditions prevail along the alimentary tract. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Inflammatory reactions in the gingiva and the periimplant mucosa

    Författare :Nicola Zitzmann; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of the present series of investigations was to study the tissue response to plaque formation at teeth and implants as well as local mechanisms involved in the regulation of the inflammatory process. The reaction of the periimplant mucosa (PiM) to long-standing plaque accumulation on implant abutments with different surface roughness was analysed in the dog model (Study I). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Nerve fibres in relation to gingiva, tooth germs and teeth in the polyphyodont cichlid Tilapia mariae

    Författare :Fredrik Tuisku; Kaj Fried; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : In the late 19th century Retzius observed the presence of nerve fibres in goldfish tooth pulps. However, later studies on the relationship between the dentition and its innervation in non-mammalian vertebrates and its use in experimental research are rare. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Treponema spp. in necrotic skin ulcers in pigs : phenotypic and genetic features

    Författare :Olov Svartström; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Treponema belongs to the phylum Spirochaetes consisting of bacteria distinguishable by a unique cell architecture that enables corkscrew-like motility. In two case studies, treponemes were isolated from ear necrosis and shoulder ulcers, two types of skin lesions that have impact on animal welfare and may cause economic losses. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The Role of gingivitis in the loss of periodontal attachment and teeth

    Författare :Marc Schätzle; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gingivitis complications; Periodontal diseases; Dental Plaque; Dental Plaque Index; Longitudinal Studies; Oral Health;

    Sammanfattning : In randomized parallel longitudinal studies conducted in Norway between 1969 and 1995, and Sri Lanka between 1970 and 1990 the initiation and progression of periodontal disease was investigated. The two groups showed geographical, racial, cultural, socioeconomic and educational differences, and they represented extremes as to perceived severity of periodontal disease, general health care delivery systems and to dental care.
