16. Characterization of Glow Plug and HCCI Combustion Processes in a Small Volume at High Engine Speed - Load Range, Emission Characteristics and Optical Diagnostics
Sammanfattning : The objective of this research that has taken me halfway to my PhD degree was to understand how HCCI combustion behaves in a small volume at high rotational speed. The investigation has been carried out using a modified model airplane engine. LÄS MER
17. Characterization of the Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition Combustion Process
Sammanfattning : The main objective of this project was to characterize the HCCI combustion process. Central parts in the project were the progress of the HCCI combustion process, the influence of charge homogeneity on the combustion process and sources of UHC and CO emissions in HCCI combustion. 18. Measurement and Control of Metal Vapours during Fluidized Bed Combustion of Biomass Fuels
Sammanfattning : Increased combustion of biomass fuels for heat and power production has created a need to recycle nutrient elements in biomass ash to soils to make the biomass consumption sustainable. It is, however, difficult to recycle the total amount of biomass ash produced due to the high concentrations of heavy metals and their readily soluble forms in some ash fractions. LÄS MER
19. Development and Application of Non-linear Mid-infrared Laser Spectroscopy for Combustion Diagnostics
Sammanfattning : The work reported in this thesis involved the development and application of two novel infrared non-linear laser techniques, namely mid-infrared polarization spectroscopy (IRPS) and mid-infrared degenerate four-wave mixing (IR-DFWM) to combustion diagnostics. These two techniques meet the needs of species concentration detection in combustion environments, especially for those species lacking accessible electronic (one-photon) transitions in the ultraviolet (UV) or visible spectral region. 20. Interaction of sound waves with a swirl stabilized wood powder flame and their effects on flame characteristics
Sammanfattning : Swirling flows have been widely used for many years in engineering applications such as; chemical and mechanical mixing devices, separation units, spray drying technologies, turbo machinery and combustion systems. In practical combustion applications, swirl motion has been adopted to the incoming reactant flows in order to enhance the mixing of fuel and oxidizer and to improve flame stabilization and establishment, especially in regions of relatively low velocities, by recirculating hot product gas to the incoming reactants.
