1. Lubrication mechanism of hydrocarbon-mimicking ionic liquids
Sammanfattning : Lubrication is critical in order to achieve high efficiency and reliability of machine elements such as gears, bearings, and other moving mechanical assemblies (MMA). In space applications, tribological properties of lubricants are quickly growing more important. LÄS MER
2. Tribology of polymer composites for elevated temperature applications
Sammanfattning : Polymers as construction material are common in the industry. Although more recently the use of polymer composites in more demanding applications has increased, requiring more of them mechanically, tribologically and thermally. To enhance the properties various fillers are used, from common glass fibers to more advanced nanoparticles. LÄS MER
3. Effects of top-of-rail friction modifiers on the friction, wear and cracks of railway rails
Sammanfattning : The railway is an economical and environmentally friendly mode of transport for long distances and heavy loads. The demands on the operators are increasing with increased competition in the market, and therefore they are currently demanding more track capacity. In the short term, the existing network is expected to deliver the increased capacity. LÄS MER
4. Rail Corrugation Growth on Curves
Sammanfattning : The development of periodic irregularities with distinct wavelengths (corrugation) on the low rail of small radius curves is studied through mathematical modelling, numerical simulations, field measurements and laboratory investigations. One year of monitoring of roughness on the low rail of a 120 m radius curve on the metro of Stockholm Public Transport (SL) showed severe growth of rail corrugation with wavelengths of about 5 cm and 8 cm. 5. On the influence of gear oil properties on pitting life
Sammanfattning : Increasing demands on the automotive industry to produce fuel-efficient vehicles has led the industry to explore different approaches, including reducing power losses and improving fuel efficiency of engines. The goal of this project has been to investigate the possibilities of reducing the frictional losses in drive axles and hypoid gears. LÄS MER
