1. The relevance and assessment of limb muscle function in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Sammanfattning : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease that is characterised by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow limitation. Consequences beyond the airways and lungs are common, and include limb muscle dysfunction. LÄS MER
2. Ionic Liquid Lubricants for Space Applications
Sammanfattning : Lubrication is critical to the efficient and reliable operation of machine elements such as gears, bearings, or any other moving mechanical assembly (MMA). On Earth, machine designers are accustomed to the access of a wide range of liquid lubricants that enable predictable and reliable long-term operations of high performance MMA. LÄS MER
3. Lubrication mechanism of hydrocarbon-mimicking ionic liquids
Sammanfattning : Lubrication is critical in order to achieve high efficiency and reliability of machine elements such as gears, bearings, and other moving mechanical assemblies (MMA). In space applications, tribological properties of lubricants are quickly growing more important. LÄS MER
4. Evaluation, Generation, and Transformation of Driving Cycles
Sammanfattning : Driving cycles are important components for evaluation and design of vehicles. They determine the focus of vehicle manufacturers, and indirectly they affect the environmental impact of vehicles since the vehicle control system is usually tuned to one or several driving cycles. 5. Fall prediction and a high-intensity functional exercise programme to improve physical functions and to prevent falls among older people living in residential care facilities
Sammanfattning : Impairments in balance, mobility, and lower-limb strength are common in the growing population of older people and can lead to dramatic consequences for the individual, such as dependency in activities of daily living, admission to nursing home, falls, and fractures. The main purposes of this thesis were, among older people in residential care facilities, to validate a fall-risk assessment tool and to evaluate a high-intensity functional weight-bearing exercise pro-gramme regarding its applicability as well as its effect on physical functions and falls.
