16. Artificial Ground Freezingin Clayey Soils : Laboratory and Field Studies of Deformations During Thawing at the Bothnia Line
Sammanfattning : Artificial ground freezing as a method to temporarily stabilize and create hydraulic sealing in urban as well as in rural areas has been used in a number of Swedish construction projects, particularly during the last decade. One problem with the freezing of soil and rock is that fine-grained clayey types of soils have showed a tendency to under certain circumstances, during the thawing process, create a pore water overpressure and to consolidate, despite a change in the external loading conditions. 17. Northern peatland carbon biogeochemistry : the influence of vascular plants and edaphic factors on carbon dioxide and methane exchange
Sammanfattning : The interest in carbon dynamics and the interactions between ecosystems and the atmosphere has increased during the last decade due to the postulated threat of anthropgenically induced global and climate change. Northern peatlands, with their large stores of organic carbon and long-term net accumulation of atmospheric carbon dioxide are key ecosystems in these interactions. LÄS MER
18. Basal cell carcinoma: real-life burden on healthcare and simplified destructive treatments
Sammanfattning : Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common cancer in humans. With steadily increasing incidence rates, there is a constant need to evaluate current diagnostic methods and treatment alternatives to achieve effective care for the patients while considering available healthcare funding. 19. Chromatographic characterization of the human red cell glucose transporter Glut1 in the cells, in membrane vesicles and in proteoliposomes
Sammanfattning : The human glucose transporter Glut1 is used by many cells, especially red blood cells andbrain cell, to take up glucose and other necessary metabolites. Gentle chromatographic methods can be applied for analyses of Glut1 activities in lipid environments similar to the native one. LÄS MER
20. Methods for measurements of chlorophyll fluorescence, luminescence and photosynthesis in intact plants
Sammanfattning : Methods were developed to study delayed light emission (luminiscence) and fluorescence changes in intact leaves of plants. Delayed light emission, detected from plants in darkness, was used to produce images of the plant leaves. The procedure was termed "phytoluminography". LÄS MER
