11. Fundamentals of a Methodology for Predictive Design Analysis
Sammanfattning : The rapid development of computer-based design analysis tools and methods such as the finite element method (FEM) within computational structural mechanics (CSM), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and multi-body systems (MBS) during recent decades has fundamentally changed the way in which products are designed and developed. Among the many advantages observed in industrial practice, one can mention improved understanding of product properties and behavior, the possibility to optimize critical design parameters and to optimize parts as well as the entire product at a system level, the possibility to explore a design space during the synthesis activity, and a decrease of the need for physical testing and thus of the number of physical prototypes needed. 12. Thermal properties of volume Bragg gratings and its implications on lasers
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains the results of research on the spectral control of lasers, specifically, the thermal limitations of volume Bragg gratings (VBGs), employed as laser-cavity end mirrors. The investigations consisted of both experiments and numerical simulations. LÄS MER
13. Reduced Order Modeling and Substructuring : Applications in Nonlinear Structural Dynamics
Sammanfattning : A structural design process typically involves various load cases for which a sufficient load-bearing capacity must be demonstrated. In addition to static load cases, a verification of dynamic loads, such as blast and impact loading, may be required. LÄS MER
14. Analysis and numerical methods for multiscale problems in magnetization dynamics
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates a multiscale version of the Landau-Lifshitz equation and how to solve it using the framework of Heterogeneous Multiscale Methods (HMM). The Landau-Lifshitz equation is the governing equation in micromagnetics, modeling magnetization dynamics. LÄS MER
15. Deformation and Fracture Behavior of Transparent Wood-Polymer Biocomposites
Sammanfattning : Transparent wood-polymer biocomposites (TWPBs) are interesting wood-based materials with a unique combination of optical transmittance and mechanical properties. The wood substrate is delignified (removal of lignin) while the wood microstructure is preserved. LÄS MER
