16. Cytotoxic Cyclotides : Structure, Activity, and Mode of Action
Sammanfattning : Cyclotides are small cyclic plant proteins, and this thesis addresses their cytotoxic structure-activity properties and their mode of action on human cancer cell lines. Cyclotides were isolated from Viola odorata and Viola tricolor; three novel cyclotide sequences and two known sequences, but of new origin, were identified using mass spectrometry, amino acid analysis, and Edman degradation. 17. Chronic anterior cruciate ligament tear : knee function and knee extensor muscle size, morphology and function before and after surgical reconstruction
Sammanfattning : Knee function was evaluated by knee score, activity level, clinical findings and performance tests, muscle size by computerized tomography (CT), morphology by light (LM) and electron microscopy (EM), muscle function by electromyography (EMG) and isokinetic performance in 29 patients with chronic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. Preoperatively CT disclosed a significant mean atrophy of the quadriceps and nonsignificant changes of the other muscle areas of the injured leg. LÄS MER
18. Ocular function and morphology in humans and rabbits exposed to vigabatrin medication
Sammanfattning : Vigabatrin is an antiepileptic drug that is known to cause visual field defects and retinal dysfunction measured by full-field electroretinography (ff-ERG). Underlying mechanisms have not yet been elucidated. LÄS MER
19. Craniofacial morphology and growth in the ferret: effects from alteration of masticatory function
Sammanfattning : INTRODUCTION: Our hypothesis is that any effects on craniofacial growth and morphology induced by altering the masticatory function will vary according to the species involved. The general aim of this thesis was to test the possible effects of altering the masticatory function on craniofacial growth and morphology, as well as features of masticatory muscles in ferrets. 20. Determination of Weibull Parameters by Single Fibre Fragmentation for use in Modelling of Paper Tensile Properties
Sammanfattning : The thesis presents a method for characterization of pulp fibre tensile strength. Single Fibre Fragmentation (SFF) and Weibull statistics were used. Methods for specimen preparation, sampling and analysis of fragmentation data from digital images were developed. LÄS MER
