  1. 1. Aspects of pathological apoptosis in the immature brain after hypoxia-ischemia

    Författare :Ulrika Hallin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :neonatal; rat; brain; hypoxia-ischemia; necrosis; apoptosis; calpain; caspase; Bcl-2; Bax; mitochondria; calcineurin.;

    Sammanfattning : The cause of mechanisms underlying perinatal brain injury is not fully known, but it results in a wide variety of neurological impairments in the affected children. When injured, neurons of the newborn brain are prone to undergo programmed cell death, apoptosis, since this genetic program is normally activated in some cells during development of the nervous system, even in the perinatal period. 2. 2. Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease

    Författare :Peter Hochbergs; Lund Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical physics; Histology; Metaphysis; Synovitis; Necrosis; Osteotomy; Arthrography; Magnetic Resonance Imaging; Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease; Pediatrics; Hip; medicinsk instrumentering; tomografi; radiologi; Klinisk fysiologi; medical instrumentation; tomography; radiology;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this study were: to compare the cartilaginous outline of the femoral head obtained on arthrograms with those on MR images and to correlate it to the bony head outlines on conventional radiograps; to study early, postoperative cartilaginous and bony remodeling of the femoral head, after proximal femoral varus derotation extension osteotomy, with MR imaging and conventional radiography; to describe signal abnormalities on MR images in the femoral epiphysis, their location, extent and restitution over time; to evaluate the degree and persistence of synovitis in the hip joint by MR imaging; to analyze the metaphyseal histology and to correlate it to the signal intensity on the MR images in the corresponding biopsy region. Results and conclusions: MR imaging and arthrography define the shape of the femoral head cartilage equally well. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On ischemia/reperfusion injury and rejection in concordant xenotransplantation to the rat

    Författare :Daniel Jan Lukes; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Concordant; xenotransplantation; rat; hamster; mouse; rejection; necrosis; PCr; ß-ATP; ROS; SOE light; I RP; IPC;

    Sammanfattning : Studies in concordant (without preformed antibodies) rodent xenotransplantation (transplantation between species) models have focused, to date, on immunological disparities. In allotransplantation (transplantation within species), there is evidence suggesting that early ischemic events may contribute to later rejection episodes and to the development of chronicrejection features. 4. 4. Mechanisms of Mitochondria-Induced Brain Damage Following Ischemia and Hypoglycemia

    Författare :Michel Ferrand-Drake; Lund Wallenberg Neurocentrum; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cyclosporin A; neuronal death; calpain; caspase; mitochondrial permeability transition; necrosis; apoptosis; cerebral ischemia; hypoglycemia; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Mechanisms of Mitochondria-Induced Brain Damage Following Ischemia and Hypoglycemia Following prolonged disruption of blood flow to the central nervous system (CNS), or energy deprivation by other means, such as hypoglycemia, some cells will inevitably degenerate. It has been, and still is, the subject of considerable debate and intense research on brain ischemia, as to the mode of cell death, i. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cytotoxic Cyclotides : Structure, Activity, and Mode of Action

    Författare :Erika Svangård; Per Claeson; Lars Bohlin; Ulf Göransson; John H. Cardellina II; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacognosy; cyclotide; cytotoxic; cancer; cyclic cystine knot; Viola; Violaceae; liposome; hollow fibre; homology modelling; mass spectrometry; amphipathic; structure–activity; tumour; membrane disruption; necrosis; Farmakognosi; Pharmacognosy; Farmakognosi;

    Sammanfattning : Cyclotides are small cyclic plant proteins, and this thesis addresses their cytotoxic structure-activity properties and their mode of action on human cancer cell lines. Cyclotides were isolated from Viola odorata and Viola tricolor; three novel cyclotide sequences and two known sequences, but of new origin, were identified using mass spectrometry, amino acid analysis, and Edman degradation.
