  1. 1. Losing control and developing concerns : The complexities of ageing postural control and fall-related concerns

    Författare :Mascha Pauelsen; Lars Nyberg; Ulrik Röijezon; Irene Vikman; Jorunn Lægdheim Helbostad; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ageing; postural balance; postural control; sensory and motor systems; fall-related concerns; fear of falling; neurological models; Physiotherapy; Fysioterapi;

    Sammanfattning : With the world population shifting its proportions towards higher ages, it is imperative to increase healthspan rather than lifespan, both for the sakes of community sustainability as well as individual quality of life. One of the main means to obtain healthy ageing, is a concept called active ageing, as activity has shown to slow down the natural ageing process. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fall-related concerns, balance and gait in older adults with osteoporosis

    Författare :Alexandra Halvarsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate the short- and long-term effects of a specific and progressive balance-training programme, focusing on dual- and multi-task exercises, with respect to fall-related concerns, gait, balance performance and physical function in older adults with osteoporosis. Furthermore, to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Falls Efficacy Scale-International questionnaire, and to explore perceptions of fall-related concerns and balance after participating in the balance-training programme. 3. 3. Fear of falling in persons with Parkinson's disease

    Författare :Stina Jonasson; Rehabiliteringsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :Activity avoidance; Balance confidence; Concerns about falling; Fall-related self-efficacy; International Classification of Functioning; Disability and Health ICF ; Linking study; Psychometrics; Qualitative research; Regression analysis; Reliability; Self-reported rating scale;

    Sammanfattning : Fear of falling (FOF) is common in persons with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and may have large consequences in daily life, causing a sedentary lifestyle, social isolation and reduced quality of life. FOF is therefore an important aspect to consider for researchers as well as clinicians and the rehabilitation team. LÄS MER

Further research is required in order to develop future prevention programs, as falls seem to be common and may have serious consequences for persons with SCI. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Human Postural Sway Modeling and Balance Impairment Detection

    Författare :Hedyeh Jafari; Thomas Gustafsson; George Nikolakopoulos; Fredrik Öhberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Automatic Control; Reglerteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Falls, Fear of falling (FoF), and low balance confidence pose significant threats to health and independence among older people. This thesis aims to study humans’ postural and balance mechanisms, from analyzing the effect of multisensory inputs on balance performance and balance-related concerns to modeling the postural sway through physical dynamics and data-driven approaches.
