  1. 1. Roles of secreted bacterial factors in modulation of host cell signalling

    Författare :Eric Toh; Sun Nyunt Wai; Teresa Frisan; Staffan Bohm; Ann-Beth Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bacteria-host interaction; motility-associated killing factor A; outer membrane vesicles; cytolysin A; phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 5-kinase alpha; enhancer of zeste homologue 2; epigenetic modulation; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Pathogenic bacteria employ several secretion systems to release or inject virulence factors that may alter host cell processes, generate a replicative niche, and aid bacterial survival in adverse environments. This thesis presents my investigations on how bacterial factors can modulate host cell signalling mechanisms. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Immune maturation and modulation in childhood allergies : Aspects of epigenetic, mucosal and systemic immune mediators in allergy development and prevention

    Författare :Johanna Huoman; Maria Jenmalm; Lennart Nilsson; Petra Ina Pfefferle; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of allergic diseases has in the past century increased among children in affluent societies. Underlying causes are incompletely disentangled, but decreased diversity in environmental and microbial exposures could drive allergy development. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mode of delivery, epigenetic modulation and immune cell formation at birth

    Författare :Titus Schlinzig; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Birth by Cesarean section (CS) has been associated with a greater risk for immune disorders like allergy, asthma, type 1 diabetes, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel diseases, and cancer later in life. Although elective CS continues to increase rapidly, it is unclear if and how it may contribute to future health and disease. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Long non-coding RNAs in the epigenetic regulation of oligodendrocyte differentiation

    Författare :Samudyata Samudyata; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) constitute a heterogeneous class of RNAs with limited coding potential, united by an arbitrarily placed cut off of >200 ntd. The past decade has seen the emergence of lncRNAs as versatile regulators of gene expression, amidst skepticism regarding the biological usefulness of pervasive genomic transcription and its non-coding RNA products prevalent in most eukaryotes. 5. 5. Genetic and epigenetic factors shaping the transcriptome in multiple sclerosis and its animal model

    Författare :Petra Bergman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory and demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. Susceptibility to develop MS is determined by both genetic and environmental factors. The epigenome resides in the interface of genetic and environmental factors thereby shaping the transcriptome.
