  1. 11. Aspects of adaptive mesh refinement in the spectral element method

    Författare :Nicolas Offermans; Philipp Schlatter; Ananias Tomboulides; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Error estimators; mesh refinement; adaptivity; spectral element method; algebraic multigrid method; NACA4412; periodic hill case.; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the improvement of the efficiency of numerical simulations in computational fluid dynamics. Some of the limitations of current algorithms on future exascale supercomputers are addressed with the main goal of using adaptive mesh refinement for the simulation of turbulent and three-dimensional flows. 2. 12. Transport and mixing by finite-size particles in turbulent flows

    Författare :Ali Yousefi; Luca Brandt; Jochen Fröhlich; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning :    Suspensions of solid particles in a viscous fluid are ubiquitous in natural and engineering settings, including sediment transport in river beds, blood flow in the human body, oil products transport in pipelines and pulp fibers in papermaking.    Multiphase flows consisting of finite-size particles is a challenging topic due to multi-way coupling and interactions between the phases. 3. 13. Numerical investigation of the flow and instabilities at part-load and speed-no-load in an axial turbine

    Författare :Jelle Kranenbarg; Michel Cervantes; Lisa Prahl Wittberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Speed-no-load; vortical flow structures; flow instabilities; rotating stall; mitigation; independent guide vanes; axial turbine; swirling flow; off design operation; URANS; parametric study; blade clearance; head losses; diffusor; GEKO model; flow separation; hydraulic turbine; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : Global renewable energy requirements rapidly increase with the transition to a fossil-free society. As a result, intermittent energy resources, such as wind- and solar power, have become increasingly popular. However, their energy production varies over time, both in the short- and long term. 4. 14. Towards understanding breakage and flow in sublevel caving (SLC) : Development of new measurement techniques and results from full-scale tests

    Författare :Matthias Wimmer; Pekka Särkkä; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och Berganläggningsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Blast function, fragmentation and gravity flow are core elements for sublevel caving (SLC). For the ore recovery to be as high and the waste rock dilution as low as possible all three elements have to work as planned. LÄS MER
