  1. 1. Aspects of adaptive mesh refinement in the spectral element method

    Författare :Nicolas Offermans; Philipp Schlatter; Ananias Tomboulides; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Error estimators; mesh refinement; adaptivity; spectral element method; algebraic multigrid method; NACA4412; periodic hill case.; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the improvement of the efficiency of numerical simulations in computational fluid dynamics. Some of the limitations of current algorithms on future exascale supercomputers are addressed with the main goal of using adaptive mesh refinement for the simulation of turbulent and three-dimensional flows. Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with two distinct topics related to the study of wall-bounded turbulence: the connection between instantaneous three-dimensional coherent structures and mean-flow properties, and the development and analysis of pre-determined control techniques for adverse-pressure-gradient boundary layers.We examined regions with intense velocity fluctuations in various flowcases. 3. 3. On stability, transition and turbulence in three-dimensional boundary-layer flows

    Författare :Seyed Mohammd Hosseini; Ardeshir Hanifi; Spencer Sherwin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Receptivity; stability; optimal growth; three-dimensional bound- ary layers; crossflow instability; roughness control; freestream turbulence; sec- ondary instability; transition; turbulence;

    Sammanfattning : A lot has changed since that day on December 17, 1903 when the Wright brothers made the first powered manned flight. Even though the concepts behind flying are unaltered, appearance of stat-of-the-art modern aircrafts has undergone a massive evolution. LÄS MER
