16. Fire history and tree population dynamics in Białowieża Forest, Poland and Belarus
Sammanfattning : Fire history and fire regime parameters in relation to the long-term tree population dynamics were studied with dendroecological methods across coniferous habitats of Białowieża Forest (E Poland and W Belarus), a semi-natural European temperate woodland ecosystem. In four different studies various aspects of fire dynamics were explored by using nearly 1500 tree ring samples of Pinus sylvestris and Picea abies. LÄS MER
17. Remote Sensing of Forest Decline in the Czech Republic
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the localisation and quantification of deforestation and forest damage in Norway spruce forests in northern Czech Republic using Landsat data. Severe defoliation increases the spectral reflectance in all wavelength bands, especially in the mid infrared region. LÄS MER
18. Modelling soil temperature and carbon storage changes for Swedish boreal forests
Sammanfattning : With the use of a process-orientated ecosystem model andmeasurements conducted at different Swedish coniferous forestsites, abiotic and biotic interactions between tree and soilwere identified and related to governing factors. Two differentmodelling approaches to describe soil temperatures at two sitesincluding hydrological transects were tested (I). LÄS MER
19. Community Assembly and Spatial Ecology of Saproxylic Coleoptera
Sammanfattning : Community assembly is the process deciding inclusion/exclusion of species in a developing community. Spatial ecology integrates spatial habitat factors with local biotic interactions within a given patch. I used standardized tree bolts (0.35-1 m long) to sample saproxylic (wood living) beetles in natural and managed forest types. LÄS MER
20. Drivers of increasing iron concentrations in freshwaters
Sammanfattning : Iron (Fe) concentrations are increasing in freshwaters (lakes and streams) in Sweden, as well as in other regions in northern Europe. Together with increasing concentrations of organic matter, Fe is contributing to the ongoing browning of freshwaters, which may have serious ecological consequences and implications for ecosystem services.
