  1. 1. Aerosol impacts on subtropical low-level clouds: a satellite and modelling perspective

    Författare :Alejandro Baró Pérez; Annica M.L. Ekman; Frida A.-M. Bender; Abhay Devasthale; Jens Redemann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aerosol-cloud-radiation interactions; cloud microphysics; biomass burning; stratocumulus to cumulus transition; cloud radiative effect; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi;

    Sammanfattning : Complex interactions between aerosols, clouds, and radiation impact Earth's climate. However, several aspects of these interactions remain uncertain, which has led to extensive research over the last decades. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Investigating aerosol effects on stratocumulus clouds through large-eddy simulation

    Författare :Ines Bulatovic; Annica Ekman; Caroline Leck; Ilona Riipinen; Daniel Grosvenor; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aerosol particles; stratocumulus; mixed-phase clouds; cloud microphysics; cloud radiative effects; Arctic; Arctic amplification; LES; aerosolpartiklar; stratusmoln; underkylda vattendroppar och iskristaller; molnmikrofysik; molnstrålningseffekter; Arktis; ”large-eddy simulation”; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi;

    Sammanfattning : Clouds have a large impact on Earth’s radiative budget by reflecting, absorbing and re-emitting radiation. They thus play a critical role in the climate system. Nevertheless, cloud radiative effects in a changing climate are highly uncertain. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mixing and Evaporation at the Cloud Edge and Angular Dynamics of Small Crystals in Viscous Flow

    Författare :Johan Fries; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cloud microphysics; droplet evaporation; reactive flows; Jeffery orbits; shear flow;

    Sammanfattning : How liquid water in atmospheric clouds distributes over droplets of different sizes is important for the initiation of rainfall, and for the optical properties of the atmosphere. Droplet-number densities and droplet-size distributions change rapidly at turbulent cloud edges, where mixing of cloudy and dry air causes cloud dilution and droplet evaporation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Multi-satellite views on mesospheric microphysics and dynamics

    Författare :Lina Broman; Jörg Gumbel; Susanne Benze; Scott Bailey; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polar mesospheric clouds; satellite tomography; remote sensing; cloud microphysics; wave dynamics; mesosphere; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : Atmospheric gravity waves of different scales and origins strongly modulate the wind field and temperature structure of the higher parts of the atmosphere. Direct and continuous measurements of these processes are particularly complicated in the mesosphere at about 50 to 100 km height due to the remote location of this region. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Satellite measurements of upper tropospheric water

    Författare :Mattias Ekström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cloud ice; upper troposphere; microwave; retrieval; the Odin satellite; humidity; limb-sounding;

    Sammanfattning : Water vapour and clouds in the upper troposphere have strong influence on the Earth's climate system. The present uncertainties regarding the distribution and feedback mechanisms of water to a changing climate are today among the greatest limitations for accurate climate predictions. LÄS MER
