1. Global Pose Estimation from Aerial Images : Registration with Elevation Models
Sammanfattning : Over the last decade, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has increased drastically. Originally, the use of these aircraft was mainly military, but today many civil applications have emerged. LÄS MER
2. Spatially Distributed Hydrological Modelling : Wetness Derived from Digital Elevation Models to Estimate Peatland Carbon
Sammanfattning : To study the hydrology of peatlands and explore wetness distribution is difficultmainly due to the complexity of the surface of peatlands, and also due to the presence of permafrost underlain peatlands in the arctic regions. I have chosen the area called Stordalen mire in the arctic region in northern Sweden for my study. LÄS MER
3. Digital wet areas mapping
Sammanfattning : Wet soil in forested landscapes of the boreal zone is often associated with large open wetlands or peatlands, but it may also be hidden beneath closed forest canopies on drained wetlands or wet strips beside streams known as riparian zones. Since these wet areas are shrouded by canopy they have traditionally been difficult to map from aerial photographs. LÄS MER
4. Hydrology and Bed Topography of the Greenland Ice Sheet : Last known surroundings
Sammanfattning : The increased temperatures in the Arctic accelerate the loss of land based ice stored in glaciers. The Greenland Ice Sheet is the largest ice mass in the Northern Hemisphere and holds ~10% of all the freshwater on Earth, equivalent to ~7 metres of global sea level rise. LÄS MER
5. Terrain Modelling with GIS for Tectonic Geomorphology : Numerical Methods and Applications
Sammanfattning : Analysis of digital elevation models (DEMs) by means of geomorphometry provides means of recognising fractures and characterising the morphotectonics of an area in a quantitative way. The objective of the thesis is to develop numerical methods and a consistent GIS methodology for tectonic geomorphology and apply it to test sites. LÄS MER
