16. Microbial Electrochemical System: extracellular electron transfer from photosynthesis and respiration to electrode
Sammanfattning : The electrochemical communication between microorganisms and electrodes has substantial implications both for basic understanding of biological electron transfer as well as in diverse applications, such as, microbial electrochemical system (MES), microbial biosensors and in production of valuable chemicals. In these systems the extracellular electron transfer (EET) from microbial metabolism to electrodes is restricted due to the insulated cellular exterior made of lipid structures. LÄS MER
17. Cyanobacteria as a model system for studies of oxygenic photosynthesis and respiration
Sammanfattning : Virtually all the energy available to living organisms is derived from solar radiation. The light energy from the sun is harvested by plants, algae and phototrophic bacteria and converted to chemical energy through the process of photosynthesis.Cyanobacteria are procaryotic organisms capable of oxygenic photosynthesis. 18. Epigenetic Regulation of Light and Hormonal Signaling in Arabidopsis thaliana
Sammanfattning : Plants are stationary and need to adapt to the environment they live in. Integration of environmental cues, such as changes in light and temperature, can occur either directly or through the action of hormones. Hormone and light signaling leads to rapid changes in gene expression, and eventually changes in protein levels. LÄS MER
19. Building knowledge for a forage breeding program on native Festuca species in the highlands of Bolivia
Sammanfattning : Native grasses constitute the most important source of feed for camelids, sheep and cattle in the highlands of Bolivia, where the genus Festuca is one of the major feed components. The two most important species of this region are F. dolichophylla J. Presl (known as “chilliwa”) and F. LÄS MER
20. Single-cell methodologies for ecological and metabolic mapping of mixotrophic microeukaryotes
Sammanfattning : Mixotrophy in aquatic protists is pivotal for our understanding of aquatic microbial food web dynamics. This thesis is centered around aquatic unicellular mixotrophs, and comprises three methodological approaches aimed to tackle mixotroph ecology at single-cell resolution: the identification of actively feeding mixotrophs in natural samples, the determination of specific interactions among mixotrophs and bacterial prey, and the profiling of two distinct mixotrophic populations based on the gene expression of their constitutive individuals.
