  2. 27. Cardiac surgery and the brain - studies on cerebral blood flow autoregulation and mechanisms of cerebral injury

    Författare :Björn Reinsfelt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cardiac surgery; cerrebral dysfunction; cardiopulmonary bypass; anaesthetics; aortic valve replacement; transcranial Doppler; cerebraospinal fluid; blood-brain barrier;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiac surgery and the brain - studies on cerebral blood flow autoregulation and mechanisms of cerebral injury Björn Reinsfelt Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Institute of Clinical Sciences, The Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden Abstract Cerebral dysfunction (CD) occurs frequently after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The main causes of CD are thought to be cerebral hypoperfusion, cerebral microembolisation , cerebral inflammation or disruption of the blood brain barrier (BBB). LÄS MER

  3. 28. Optical Monitoring of Cerebral Microcirculation

    Författare :Peter Rejmstad; Karin Wårdell; Göran Salerud; Neda Haj-Hosseini; Kerstin Ramser; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; optical monitoring; cerebral microcirculation; diffuse reflectance spectroswcopy DRS ; laser Doppler flowmetry LDF ;

    Sammanfattning : The cerebral microcirculation consists of a complex network of small blood vessels that support nerve cells with oxygen and nutrition. The blood flow and oxygen delivery in the microcirculatory blood vessels are regulated through mechanisms which may be influenced or impaired by disease or brain damage resulting from conditions such as brain tumors, traumatic brain injury or subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). 4. 29. Endothelium-derived substances and regional hemodynamics in experimental hypertension

    Författare :Sven-Olof Granstam; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; nitric oxide; endothelin; hypertension; rats; SHR; hemodynamics; blood pressure; blood flow; acetylcholine; carvedilol; microsphere method; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR), a model for experimental hypertension, is considered to have similarities with essential hypertension in humans. Differences between SHR and normotensive Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) in the vascular response to endothelial-derived substances such as nitric oxide (NO) have been intensively studied in vitro. LÄS MER

  5. 30. The role of bacterial endotoxin in the immature brain

    Författare :Saskia Eklind; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :lipopolysaccharide; hypoxia-ischemia; immature; temperature; cerebral blood flow; blood glucose; inflammation; apoptosis; microarray; preconditioning;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: Epidemiological evidence suggests that infections may increase the vulnerability of the immature brain to further insults. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the role of bacterial endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide, LPS) on hypoxic-ischemic (HI) injury in the immature rat brain, and to evaluate possible underlying mechanisms of increased sensitivity.
