  1. 1. Structural Details of Human Aquaporin Regulation : Three stories of three aquaporins

    Författare :Veronika Nesverova; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aquaporin; membrane proteins; protein trafficking; water channel; aquaporin 0; aquaporin 5; aquaporin 2; cryo-EM; protein phosphorylation; protein-protein interaction; aquaporin regulation; aquaporins;

    Sammanfattning : Every cell is surrounded by a thin plasma membrane, protecting it from its surrounding. Specialized protein channels and transporters are embedded in this membrane, ensuring selective transport of molecules in and out of the cells. To maintain optimal hydration, water channels called aquaporins (AQPs) are present in every cell of our body. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Water transport through perinatal skin : Barrier function and aquaporin water channels

    Författare :Johan Ågren; Gunnar Sedin; Gunnar Flemström; Steven B Hoath; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Preterm infant; Transepidermal water loss; Aquaporin; Skin biology; Hyperosmolarity; Pediatrik; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : While constituting a well functioning interface with the aqueous environment in utero, the skin offers a poor barrier after very preterm birth. As a result, transepidermal water loss (TEWL) is high, a fact which has important clinical consequences in these infants. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Housing Aquaporins in Nanostructured Glass

    Författare :Simon Isaksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Membrane protein; Water; Interface; Aquaporin; Silica; Formation; Silicification;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are a group of biomolecules that perform versatile tasks, which in many cases are essential for life. The magnitude of their importance is perhaps expressed by the word protein itself, coined by the Swedish chemist Jöns Jacob Berzelius in the summer of 1838. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Tethered Lipid Vesicles as Nanoscale Sensor Elements

    Författare :Seyed Tabaei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aquaglyceroporin; lipid vesicles; total internal reflection fluorescence TIRF microscopy; cell membrane; aquaporin; pore formation; surface plasmon resonance SPR ; phospholipase A2; antiviral peptide; lipid bilayer; biosensing; microfluidics;

    Sammanfattning : The primary aim of this thesis work has been to explore and advance the potential of surface tethered lipid vesicles as a platform for studying in particular the following three biomembrane-related processes: trans-membrane transport, membrane-peptide interactions and the activity of membrane active enzymes. First, a method based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy was developed for studying passive diffusion processes as well as the membrane-protein mediated transport of small non electrolyte molecules across lipid bilayers. 5. 5. Plant Aquaporins: A study of expression, localization, specificity, and regulation

    Författare :Sara Sjövall Larsen; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Växtbiokemi; Plant biochemistry; phosphorylation; protein kinase; overexpression; NIP; MIP; plant; aquaporin;

    Sammanfattning : Aquaporins, or Major Intrinsic Proteins (MIPs), are integral proteins that facilitate transport of water and other small neutral solutes across biological membranes. They belong to a well conserved and ancient family of proteins, present in all organisms ranging from bacteria to plants and humans. LÄS MER
