Sammanfattning : The photographic archive of the American New Deal agency Farm Security Administration (created 1935-1943) occupies an important place in the history of photography as an exemplar of documentary photography and as symbol of the Great Depression. This dissertation is a historiographic study of this narrative of FSA photography, which investigates the archive's monumental position in the historical narration and demonstrates other possible readings. 13. Assisting in the Shadows : Humanitarianism, Shelters and Transit Migration Politics
Sammanfattning : The Tamaulipas tragedy in 2010 proved a turning point for transit migration politics. This was one of the worst massacres on Mexican territory, in which 72 undocumented migrants, mostly from Central America, were kidnapped, tortured, and their dead bodies piled up in a ditch at a local ranch in the northern Mexican state. Sammanfattning : The dissertation examines from a non-German and politically independent position the view of Hölderlin in the literary productive reception in the Federal Republic and the GDR during the years 1949-1981, given the assumption of a Hölderlin renaissance at the end of the 1960s and during the 1970s. From a comprehensive reception-aesthetical perspective which regards reception as a dialogue between a classic and a contemporary author, the questions are asked, In which significant connections is Hölderlin topical? and How has interest for him been reflected in literary works about him? The reception of Hölderlin from the Goethe Period up to and including the present as well as the emergence and growth of a socialistic conception of Hölderlin are sketched in a historical retrospect. Sammanfattning : Starting from the experiences of hackers developing free software and open hardware, this thesis addresses some key and recurrent themes in the field of Science and Technology Studies (STS). It poses the question: how are technologies conceptualised, constructed and used in ways that render some aspects of them transparent, while leaving others opaque? This question is complicated by the fact that what is visible and transparent to some will remain opaque to others, depending on the level of technical expertise commanded. LÄS MER
