  1. 6. Valvular aortic stenosis in children. Outcome, physical activity and health-related quality of life

    Författare :Cecilia Kjellberg Olofsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Valvular aortic stenosis; Critical aortic stenosis; Child; Neonate; Outcome; Surgical valvotomy; Physical activity; Health-related quality of life; Life satisfaction;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Isolated valvular aortic stenosis (VAS) accounts for 3–5% of congenital heart disease and presents with a wide spectrum of severity. Critical VAS in the neonate is the most severe form, fatal in the absence of treatment. Physical activity is essential for normal development and is a prerequisite for long-term cardiovascular health. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Thyroid hormone receptor expression in cardiovascular disease and pharmacology

    Författare :Shiva Shahrara; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :TR mRNA; amiodarone; propranolol; heart rate; Quantitative RT-PCR; Western blot; Northern blot; mRNA and protein distribution; chronic valvular disease; Mated cardiomyopathy; AT- I cardiomyocytes; mouse myocardium;

    Sammanfattning : The heart is a major target organ for thyroid hormone actions. Thyroid hormone exerts effects on the myocardium, which are mediated by specific nuclear receptors. The thyroid hormone receptors (TR) are members of the steroid hormone receptor superfamily. LÄS MER

  3. 8. New insights in the assessment of right ventricular function : an echocardiographic study

    Författare :Avin Calcutteea; Michael Y Henein; Per Lindqvist; Jan Engvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; echocardiography; right ventricle; ischaemic heart disease; pulmonary hypertension; aortic stenosis; aortic valve replacement; three dimensional echocardiography; speckle tracking echocardiography; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background:  The right ventricle (RV) is multi-compartmental in orientation with a complex structural geometry. However, assessment of this part of the heart has remained an elusive clinical challenge. LÄS MER

  4. 9. The bicuspid aortic valve and thoracic aortic disease

    Författare :Carl Granath; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : About 1% of the population is born with an aortic valve composed of only two cusps, called a bicuspid aortic valve. Bicuspid aortic valve is associated with a high risk of both aortic valve disease and ascending aortic dilatation, which develop at a significantly earlier age than in patients with a normal tricuspid aortic valve. 5. 10. Patient-Specific Finite Element Modeling of the Blood Flow in the Left Ventricle of a Human Heart

    Författare :Jeannette Hiromi Spühler; Johan Hoffman; Johan Jansson; Mariano Vazquez; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Finite element method; Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian method; Fluid-Structure interaction; Contact model; parallel algorithm; blood flow; left ventricle; aortic valves; patient-specific heart model;

    Sammanfattning : Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the world. Therefore, numerous studies are undertaken to identify indicators which can be applied to discover cardiac dysfunctions at an early age. LÄS MER
