  1. 36. Population dynamics of tundra-living grey-sided voles

    Författare :Per Ekerholm; Lauri Oksanen; Rolf Anker Ims; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Population dynamics; Tundra; Grey-sided vole; Cycles; Vole specialist predators; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; zooekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the dynamics of tundra living voles with emphasis on the most common one, the grey-sided vole (Clethrionomys rufocanus). The tundra area chosen for the study was Finnmarksvidda, a vast flatland in northernmost Norway. LÄS MER

  2. 37. Long-term changes in macroalgal vegetation on the Swedish coast : An evaluation of eutrophication effects with special emphasis on increased organic sedimentation

    Författare :Britas Klemens Eriksson; Francisco Xavier Niell Castanera; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Baltic Sea; Eutrophication; Fragmentation; Fucus vesiculosus; Functional group; Gullmar Fjord; Macroalgae; Long-term changes; Reproduction; Sedimentation; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I examine and evaluate the effects of a documented large-scale eutrophication on macroalgal vegetation on the Swedish coast. During the past century the load of nutrients has increased manifold in the Baltic Sea area, increasing primary production and organic sedimentation significantly. LÄS MER

  3. 38. Land Use, Freshwater Flows and Ecosystem Services in an Era of Global Change

    Författare :Line Gordon; Carl Folke; David Molden; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; freshwater; green water; ecosystem services; integrated water resources management; food production; land use and land cover change; vulnerability; resilience; hydrological cycle; global change; Australia; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to analyse interactions between freshwater flows, terrestrial ecosystems and human well-being. Freshwater management and policy has mainly focused on the liquid water part (surface and ground water run off) of the hydrological cycle including aquatic ecosystems. LÄS MER

  4. 39. Long-term studies of succession : Colonisation and seed banks

    Författare :Ulf Grandin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Ellenberg indicator values; genetic variation; long-term study; Lythrum salicaria; Moehringia trinervia; primary succession; seed bank; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : Using data from long-term studies of the vegetation in two areas under primary succession, patterns of colonisation and the accumulated seed bank during plant succession were studied.At century-old small islands in Lake Hjälmaren, Sweden, the genetic structure of differently old populations of Moehringia trinervia and Lythrum salicaria was studied, using allozyme variation for M. 5. 40. Uptake and toxicity of brominated flame retardants and pesticides : Studies on littoral organisms and model communities

    Författare :Kerstin Gustafsson; Nils Kautsky; Kirsten Christoffersen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aquatic ecotoxicology; ecological interactions; indirect effects; model community studies; toxicity; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, brackish and freshwater littoral model communities (microcosms) of varying size and complexity were used to study the effects of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and pesticides. The brackish water microcosms consisted of natural water, sediment and associated organisms, while the larger freshwater microcosms also contained submersed macrophytes (Elodea canadensis). LÄS MER
