  1. 16. Trophic, Indirect, and Evolutionary Interactions in a Plant–Herbivore–Parasitoid System

    Författare :Johan Stenberg; Lars Ericson; John Parker; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant resistance; coevolution; herbivory; Skeppsvik; food web; parasitism; maternal effect; natural selection; Filipendula ulmaria; Chrysomelidae; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis project was to elucidate patterns and processes associated with the biotic interactions in a natural plant–herbivore–parasitoid food web characterized by spatial and temporal heterogeneity with regard to species composition. The system examined is based on island populations of the perennial herb Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria, Rosaceae), located in the Skeppsvik Archipelago. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Community Assembly and Spatial Ecology of Saproxylic Coleoptera

    Författare :Jonas Victorsson; Mats Björklund; Stefan Ås; Anne Magurran; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi; Animal Ecology; zooekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Community assembly is the process deciding inclusion/exclusion of species in a developing community. Spatial ecology integrates spatial habitat factors with local biotic interactions within a given patch. I used standardized tree bolts (0.35-1 m long) to sample saproxylic (wood living) beetles in natural and managed forest types. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Land use change constitutes a primary driving force in shaping social-ecological systems world wide, and its effects reach far beyond the directly impacted areas. Graph based landscape ecological tools have become established as a promising way to efficiently explore and analyze the complex, spatial systems dynamics of ecological networks in physical landscapes. 4. 19. Predators in low arctic tundra and their impact on community structure and dynamics

    Författare :Maano Aunapuu; Tarja Oksanen; Ola Atlegrim; Oswald J. Schmitz; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; arthropods; coexistence; community dynamics; competition; food webs; hypothesis of exploitation ecosystems; intraguild predation; small mustelids; trophic cascades; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; zooekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : The abundance of predators and their impact on ecosystem dynamics is a vividly discussed topic in current ecology. In my studies, incorporating field observations, field experiments and theoretical modeling, I explored the importance of predators and predation in a low arctic tundra ecosystem in northern Norway. 5. 20. The ecological significance of cleistogamy

    Författare :Henrik Berg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; bet-hedging; chasmogamous; enviromnental variation; fitness; outcrossing; progeny; selling; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : Various aspects of cleistogamy, a reproductive system combining selfing in closed (cleistogamous) flowers and potential outcrossing in open (chasmogamous) flowers, were investigated in four perennial species. The main purpose was to shed some light on the adaptive value of having a dual reproductive strategy, and to test some hypotheses on the maintenance of xenogamy. LÄS MER
