  1. 21. Exploring cross-resource impacts of urban sustainability measures : an urban climate-land-energy-water nexus analysis

    Författare :Rebecka Ericsdotter Engström; Viktoria Martin; Georgia Destouni; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Mark I. Howells; Nazmiye Ozkan; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; urban sustainability; CLEW nexus; water-energy nexus; nature-based solutions; SDG spillovers; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In an increasingly urban world, cities' global resource uses grow. Two fundamental resources for making cities liveable are water and energy. These resources are also closely interlinked – systems that convert and deliver energy to cities require water, and urban water systems use energy. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Current socio-technical wastewater system paradigms are being challenged by emerging global issues such as climate change, environmental degradation and scarcity of resources. Thus, exploration of innovative new urban water management solutions is required that enable closure of resource loops. LÄS MER

  3. 23. The Sustainability and Competitiveness of European Short-Sea Shipping

    Författare :Zeeshan Raza; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Short-sea shipping; environmental sustainability; competitiveness; improvement factors; slow steaming; collaboration; innovation;

    Sammanfattning : Several factors could improve the environmental performance of European short-sea shipping (SSS) and enhance its competitiveness, and in this thesis, some of those factors are explored. The purpose of this thesis is to both explore factors with the potential to improve the environmental sustainability of European SSS and analyse the industry’s competitiveness. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Towards a framework for enabling sustainable production systems: a life-cycle perspective

    Författare :Ilaria Giovanna Barletta; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; energy efficiency; discrete event simulation; e-waste; KPI; triple bottom line; decision support; manufacturing; sustainability;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis contributes to scientific knowledge by offering the foundation of a framework that helps stakeholders such as managers and engineers to enable sustainability over the entire lifecycle of the production system, from planning to re-use. In this thesis sustainability can be assessed through performance indicators and is understood through its triple bottom line of: economic, environmental and social sustainability. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Green consumption energy use and carbon dioxide emission

    Författare :Eva Alfredsson; Einar Holm; Neil Swan; Kerstin Westin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Social and economic geography; Energy consumption; Carbon dioxide emission; Energy intensity; Carbon intensity; Life cycle assessment; Consumption patterns; Lifestyles; Systems analysis; Microsimulation modelling; Demography; Sustainability; Rebound effects; Substitution effects; Kulturgeografi; Human geography; Kulturgeografi; Social and Economic Geography; kulturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to explore the quantitative potential to reduce energy requirements and CO2 emissions through changed patterns of consumption, given unchanged levels of consumption expenditure. The thesis question is analysed using a systems analysis approach which in this case means that life cycle assessment data on energy requirements and CO2 emissions related to household consumption are combined with a financial and behavioural analysis to make sure that the budget constraint is kept and that both the first and second order effects of adopting a green consumption pattern are analysed.
