  1. 31. Designing for Extremes

    Författare :Olga Bannova; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Architect; Human Factors; Engineering; Engineer; Multidisciplinary and Trans-disciplinary Design and Planning.; Extreme environments; Architecture; Design Planning;

    Sammanfattning : The starting point of this research is based on personal experience in research and design for extreme environments, including orbital and lunar planetary facilities, disaster shelters, polar stations and offshore surface and submersible habitats. This work reflects on related to research problem technical papers, discussions with professionals about their work experience with projects in extreme conditions, and students' workshops debating strategies to form sustainable behavior and design practices. 2. 32. Towards a sustainable automotive industry : experiences from the development of emission control systems

    Författare :David Bauner; Staffan Laestadius; Lee Schipper; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; evolutionary economics; environmental innovation; trajectories; co-evolution; Industrial engineering and economy; Industriell teknik och ekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : From the mid-1970s and on, the contribution to air pollution of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides from gasoline passenger cars in the developed world has been reduced through co-evolution of regulation and commercial introduction of catalytic emission control technology, now part of hundreds of millions of cars, trucks and buses worldwide. This dissertation is a disaggregated study of the global introduction of catalytic emission control technology as a measure to reduce local air pollution. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Evaluation and variability of power grid hosting capacity for electric vehicles : Case studies of residential areas in Sweden

    Författare :Maria Sandström; Erik Dotzauer; Chris Bales; Pei Huang; Björn Laumert; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hosting capacity HC ; Power grid; Electric vehicle EV ; Charging strategies; Power flow simulations; Uncertainty analysis; Hållbar stadsutveckling; Sustainable Urban Development; inget Strategiskt forskningsområde SFO ; no Strategic Research Area SFO ;

    Sammanfattning : Electric vehicles (EVs) are increasing in popularity and play an important role in decarbonizing the transport sector. However, a growing EV fleet can cause problems for power grids as the grids are not initially designed for EV charging. The potential of a power grid to accommodate EV loads can be assessed through hosting capacity (HC) analysis. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Designing out waste - Exploring barriers for material recirculation

    Författare :Isabel Ordonez Pizarro; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; waste sorting; sustainable development; Water; Waste; Urban; waste management; Resources; resource recovery; Recycling; designing with waste; recycling;

    Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis has investigated what hinders material recirculation in society, to later suggest possible ways to support material recirculation in the future. Since material recirculation is proposed as a way to use waste materials for new production, it was deemed relevant to investigate two separate case studies that enabled recirculation from production systems and waste management. 5. 35. Introductory Approach to Business Model Design for Strategic Sustainable Development

    Författare :César Levy França; Blekinge Tekniska Högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The interrelated challenges of systematic degradation of ecosystems, social inequalities, financial instability and resource constraints are redefining the overall conditions for business in the twenty-first century. Addressing these challenges both demands and brings great opportunity for innovation. LÄS MER
