6. Recycling Filter Substrates used for Phosphorus Removal from Wastewater as Soil Amendments
Sammanfattning : This thesis studied the viability of recycling filter substrates as soil amendments after being used in on-site systems for phosphorus (P) removal from wastewater. Focus was put on the materials Filtra P and Polonite, which are commercial products used in compact filters in Sweden. LÄS MER
7. Exploring the role of granular activated carbon in drinking water production
Sammanfattning : Safe and clean drinking water is recognised as a human right by the United Nations, but water sources world-wide are affected by the widespread use of synthetic chemicals, creating a challenge that drinking water producers must address. Many of these synthetic chemicals, here referred to as organic micropollutants (OMPs), are not well removed by conventional drinking water treatment, and thus additional treatment steps are needed. 8. Biofiltration technologies for stormwater quality treatment
Sammanfattning : Due to high runoff volumes and peak flows, and significant contamination with (inter alia) sediment, metals, nutrients, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and salt, urban stormwater is a major cause of degradation of urban water ways. Since current urban drainage systems, which heavily rely on piped sewer networks, may not be sustainable, attempts are being made to develop and refine sustainable urban drainage solutions, notably in Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) and Low Impact Development (LID) concepts. 9. A small scale wastewater treatment system adapted to nutrient recovery in cold climate : performance and possible sorbents
Sammanfattning : Waterbodies are impaired by, among other things, discharge from onsite small- scale wastewater (WW) treatment systems. Hence, these systems need to be updated to improve the effluent quality and the reuse of nutrients within society. LÄS MER
10. Towards sustainability of environmental protection : recovery of nutrients from wastewater filtration and the washing of arsenic contaminated soils
Sammanfattning : Conventional methods for wastewater treatment and remediation of the sites withcontaminated soils focus on protection of human health, receiving waters and theenvironment. Towards this end, these methods concentrate on the reduction or removal of polluting substances, and therefore, are not well suited for creating resources through the recovery of nutrients, energy and decontaminated soils.
