11. Laser diode systems for photodynamic therapy and medical diagnostics
Sammanfattning : This work concerns techniques for improvement of the coherence properties of diode lasers so that they may be used in two specific medical applications: (Interstitial) photodynamic therapy (PDT) and laser-induced fluorescence diagnostics. In the first application, spatial coherence is crucial, since the treatment light should be delivered through relatively thin optical fibers to optimize treatment and to facilitate minimally invasive treatment. 12. Molecular Quadratic Response Properties with Inclusion of Relativity
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns quadratic response properties and their application to properties in Jablonski diagrams such as resonant two-photon absorption and excited state absorption. Our main interest lies in optical power limiting applications, and in this context, molecules containing heavy metal atoms prove superior. LÄS MER
13. Ensemble and Individual III-V Semiconductor Nanopillars: Optical Properties and Applications
Sammanfattning : Optical properties of semiconductor nanowires (NWs)/nanopillars (NPs), as individual or ensemble, have attracted significant research interest in recent years. Their potential applications range from solid-state lighting, photovoltaics, lasing and nonlinear optics to sensing and life sciences. LÄS MER
14. Deterministic Silicon Pillar Assemblies and their Photonic Applications
Sammanfattning : It is of paramount importance to our society that the environment, life style, science and amusement flourish together in a balanced way. Some trends in this direction are the increased utilization of renewable energy, like solar photovoltaics; better health care products, for example advanced biosensors; high definition TV or high resolution cameras; and novel scientific tools for better understanding of scientific observations. 15. Nonlinear Acoustics Applied to NonDestructive Testing
Sammanfattning : Sensitive nonlinear acoustic methods are suitable for material characterization. This thesis describes three nonlinear acoustic methods that are proven useful for detection of defects like cracks and delaminations in solids. LÄS MER
