36. The Challenge of Probing Lithium Insertion Mechanisms in Cathode Materials
Sammanfattning : The Li-ion battery has, from its commercialisation in the early 1990's, now become the most widely used power source for portable low-power electronics: laptops, cellular phones and MP3-players are a few examples. To further develop existing and find new electrode materials for these batteries, it is vital to understand the lithium insertion/extraction mechanisms taking place during battery operation. LÄS MER
37. Case Studies in Ion Beam Assisted Nanostructure Engineering
Sammanfattning : Beams of energetic ions can be used for material analysis and modification. It provides us with a tool featuring unique control over the area, depth and amount of damage in the material. This property of ion beams can be used to generate desired changes in material properties or form nanostructures with specific characteristics in the material. LÄS MER
38. Fundamental Properties of Functional Magnetic Materials
Sammanfattning : Magnetic properties of powders, thin films and single crystals have been investigated using magnetometry methods. This thesis provides analysis and conclusions that are supported by the results obtained from spectroscopic and diffraction measurements as well as from theoretical calculations. LÄS MER
39. Superradiant THz wave emission from arrays of Josephson junctions
Sammanfattning : High-power, continuous-wave, compact and tunable THz sources are needed for a large variety of applications. Development of power-efficient sources of electromagnetic radiation in the 0.1-10 THz range is a difficult technological problem, known as the “THz gap. LÄS MER
40. Preparation, structure and properties of Hg, Tl-containing high-temperature superconductors
Sammanfattning : Powder samples with the general composition (Tl,Hg)2(Ba,Sr)2(Sr,Ca)Cu2O8-d, abbreviated 2212, were synthesised by solid-state reaction of metal oxides in closed silica ampoules. Depending on the relative amounts of Ba, Sr, and Ca, the superconducting transition temperature, Tc, varied significantly (45-100 K). LÄS MER
