  1. 1. Prognostic Factors in First-Episode Schizophrenia : Five-year Outcome of Symptoms, Function and Obesity

    Författare :Robert Bodén; Johan Sundström; Leif Lindström; Lena Flyckt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; First-episode; psychosis; schizophrenia; community mental health services; remission; functional outcome; biochemistry; obesity; weight-gain; prediction; autonomic balance; electrocardiography; Psychiatry; Psykiatri; Psychiatry; Psykiatri;

    Sammanfattning : Our knowledge of prognostic factors and optimal treatment organisation in schizophrenia is incomplete. The disparity of outcome measures used has been a major obstacle for research. Increasing evidence has shown that schizophrenia is associated with increased cardiovascular mortality, development of obesity and autonomic nervous system imbalance. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Negative symptoms, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation and heart rate variability in schizophrenia and depression

    Författare :Johan Bengtsson; Robert Bodén; Jonas Persson; Erik Olsson; Caroline Wass; Jimmi Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; negative symptoms; psychotic disorders; affective disorders; non-invasive brain stimulation; transdiagnostics; psychometrics; autonomic nervous system; Psychiatry; Psykiatri;

    Sammanfattning : Negative symptoms comprise anhedonia, avolition, and blunted affect. Although first described in schizophrenia, these symptoms share phenomenology with the depressive state. Pharmacological treatment has not been successful in reducing negative symptoms. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Suicide in schizophrenia and adverse events during antipsychotic medication

    Författare :Eric Clapham; Robert Bodén; Johan Reutfors; Helle Kieler; Ursula Werneke; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; schizophrenia; antipsychotics; clozapine; suicide; osteoporosis; myocarditis; Psychiatry; Psykiatri;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis considers side effects and other adverse events during treatment with antipsychotic medication. All included studies use an epidemiological methodology with data from Swedish population-based health registers. The first two studies utilise a nested case-control design, whereas the third and fourth studies rely on cohort designs. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The effect of intermittent theta-burst stimulation over the dorsomedial prefrontal cortext on brain activity in depression

    Författare :Wiebke Struckmann; Robert Bodén; Jonas Persson; Malin Gingnell; Paul Hamilton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dorsomedial prefrontal cortex; iTBS; transcranial magnetic stimulation; Psychiatry; Psykiatri;

    Sammanfattning : Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation is an emerging alternative for treatment-resistant depression, with ongoing developments in stimulation protocols and treatment targets. As such, intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS) delivered over the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex (dmPFC) has shown promise, however establishing a need for neuroimaging studies to further understand the treatment mechanisms. 5. 5. Vulnerability and Social Functioning in Schizophrenia

    Författare :Gabriella Stålberg; Robert Bodén; Lisa Ekselius; Lena Flyckt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Coping; fetal growth; low birth weight; neuropeptides; outcome; problem solving skills; psychosis; risk factors; schizophrenia; siblings; social function; twins; Psychiatry; Psykiatri;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis offers a broad approach in elucidating biological risk factors, as well as psychological and social functioning in schizophrenia. The aims are as follows: (I) investigate the association between birth characteristics and schizophrenia, (II) study the association between levels of neurotransmitter neuropeptide Y (NPY) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), social function and longitudinal outcome in schizophrenia, (III) compare social functioning of patients with schizophrenia with their biological siblings and (IV) explore how siblings to patients with schizophrenia perceive the sibling relationship and their role.
