6. Design and synthesis of steroid mimetic libraries using solid phase techniques
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the design and synthesis of biologically active ligands for nuclear hormone receptors using combinatorial techniques. In the first part, a 5,6,6a,7,8,9,10,10a-octahydrobenzo[f]quinolin-3(4H)-one tricyclic core structure was designed mimicking the ABC-rings of a steroid. LÄS MER
7. Excited-state dynamics of small organic molecules studied by time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Ultra-violet and visible light induced processes in small organic molecules play very important roles in many fields, e.g., environmental sciences, biology, material development, chemistry, astrophysics and many others. Thus it is of great importance to better understand the mechanisms behind these processes. LÄS MER
8. Estrogen actions in the growth plate cartilage
Sammanfattning : Estrogens may influence bone growth locally or systemically via the estrogen receptors alpha (ERα), beta (ERβ) and G protein-coupled estrogen receptor 1 (GPER-1). In Paper I, our study showed that the treatment of ovariectomized C57BL/6 mice with a selective ERα agonist 1,3,5-tris(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4-propyl-1H-pyrazole (PPT) reduced growth plate height and hypertrophic zone height suggesting that the effect was induced via ERα. 9. Development of cannabinoid subtype-1 (CB1) receptor ligands for PET
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Abnormalities in brain cannabinoid subtype-1 (CB1) receptor concentrations and/or signaling pathways may be involved in a variety of psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. There is a strong need to image and quantify brain CB1 receptor concentrations in living humans under baseline and diseased conditions. LÄS MER
10. The impact of estrogens on leukocyte function in remodeling of extracellular matrix
Sammanfattning : Background: Major reproductive events such as menstruation, ovulation, implantation and cervical ripening are characterized by an increased number of invading leukocytes in the tissues. Sex steroid hormones, particularly estrogens, play an important role in these changes. LÄS MER
