  1. 6. Human olfaction : Associations with longitudinal assessment of episodic memory, dementia, and mortality risk

    Författare :Ingrid Ekström; Jonas Olofsson; Maria Larsson; Devangere Devanand; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; olfaction; odor identification; self-assessments; aging; episodic memory; ApoE; dementia; Alzheimer’s disease; vascular dementia; mortality; cohort study; population-based.; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : A declining sense of smell is a common feature in older age. Above and beyond diminished smelling capacity due to normal processes of human aging, impairments in olfactory function have also been linked to numerous ill-health related outcomes, such as cognitive dysfunctions, dementia pathology and even an increased risk of death. 2. 7. Olfactory Function : The Influence of Demographic, Cognitive, and Genetic Factors

    Författare :Margareta Hedner; Maria Larsson; Lars-Göran Nilsson; Claire Murphy; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Olfaction; odor identification; odor threshold; odor discrimination; aging; gender; ApoE; BDNF; val66met; association study; population-based; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Olfactory function is affected by demographic, cognitive, and genetic factors. In the present thesis, three empirical studies investigated individual differences in olfactory ability. Study I explored demographic and cognitive correlates in common olfactory tasks; odor detection, odor discrimination, and odor identification. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Birth cohort differences in cognitive aging: Secular trends in cognitive functioning and decline over 30 years in three population-based Swedish samples

    Författare :Peter Karlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Aging; cardiovascular risk factors; cognitive decline; cohort differences; fluid and crystallized abilities; Flynn effect; longitudinal;

    Sammanfattning : The overarching aim of this thesis was to investigate birth cohort differences in level of cognitive functioning and change in later life in three population-based representative samples drawn from the Gerontological and Geriatric Population Studies in Gothenburg (H70), Sweden. We used data from cohorts, born in 1901-02, 1906-07, and 1930, measured at ages 70, 75, and 79 on the same cognitive measures. LÄS MER
