41. Labour mobility and plant performance : The influence of proximity, relatedness and agglomeration
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to shed new light on the theorizations discussing the economic benefits of geographical clustering in a space economy increasingly characterized by globalization processes. This is made possible through the employment of a plant-perspective and a focus on how the relative fixity and mobility of labour influence plant performance throughout the entire Swedish economy. 42. Plant phenology in seasonal environments
Sammanfattning : Phenology, or the seasonal timing life-history events such as emergence, reproduction and senescence will determine the outcome of interactions between plants and both abiotic and biotic aspects of the environment. Such timing is therefore of utmost importance for plants in seasonal environments. LÄS MER
43. PLANT-BACTERIAL AND PLANT-FUNGAL COMPETITION FOR NITROGEN AND PHOSPHORUS
Sammanfattning : Competition between and within species has been one of the most studied concepts in ecology. In this thesis the aim was to test the idea of plant-microbial competition for N and, by studying this interaction, to gain a better understanding of different N processes in soil. LÄS MER
44. Cyanobacterial genome evolution subsequent to domestication by a plant (Azolla)
Sammanfattning : Cyanobacteria are an ancient and globally distributed group of photosynthetic prokaryotes including species capable of fixing atmospheric dinitrogen (N2) into biologically available ammonia via the enzyme complex nitrogenase. The ability to form symbiotic interactions with eukaryotic hosts is a notable feature of cyanobacteria and one which, via an ancient endosymbiotic event, led to the evolution of chloroplasts and eventually to the plant dominated biosphere of the globe. 45. The actinorhizal plant Datisca glomerata : interpreting its symbiotic adaptations by omics-based comparisons with model and non-model organisms
Sammanfattning : Nitrogen is the element that most often limits plant growth and development. Common agricultural practices rely on the application of large quantities of industrially-produced nitrogen fertilizer, which poses a worldwide environmental threat. Sustainable agriculture encourages the use of biologically fixed nitrogen. LÄS MER
