In general elderly patients are at greater risk of experiencing drug-related problems (DRP), as they have multiple diseases, are using many drugs and have changed physiological status. LÄS MER
22. Nitric Oxide in the Inner Ear with Particular Regard to Neurotansmission and Pharmacotherapy
Sammanfattning : Research into nitric oxide (NO) in the inner ear has expanded explosively during recent years. There is evidence that NO is present in the various cochlear structures and its action is involved in physiological mechanisms, such as neurotransmission, and in pathological processes, e.g. ototoxicity. 23. Biological therapies : treatment outcome in RA-patients : quality of life, health economy and pharmacotherapy
Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory systemic autoimmune disorder characterized by symmetric inflammation of synovial joints, leading to progressive erosion of cartilage and bone. The impact of the disease is wide, not only resulting in decreased quality of life (QoL), but also a loss of productivity and an increase in healthcare costs The aim of this thesis was to study the impact of treatment with tumour necrosis factor- alpha inhibitors (TNF-inhibitors) on patients with RA in terms of risk for adverse events, impact on work-force ability and the possibility to predict treatment outcome from early patient reported data. 24. Factors influencing outcome in patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy - Effects of pharmacotherapy, pacing and surgical myectomy
Sammanfattning : Background: Most studies on risk factors for disease-related mortality in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) have emanated from specialized tertiary centres which are subject to possible referral bias. About one quarter of HCM-patients have outflow obstruction in the left ventricle, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM). LÄS MER
25. Older people with intellectual disability and affective and anxiety disorders: Comorbidities, healthcare utilisation, pharmacotherapy and frailty factors requiring support and social services
Sammanfattning : AbstractBackground: Affective and anxiety disorders have a higher occurrence in older people with intellectual disability (ID) than in the general population. However, there is a lack of research into this ageing group from the point of view of their health panorama, use of medicines, healthcare utilisation and social welfare support. LÄS MER
