11. Heated air gaps : a possibility to dry out dampness from building constructions
Sammanfattning : The air gap method is a modification of the common way of building indoor walls and floors. The aim of the method is to make a construction, less fragile to water damage, with air gaps where moisture can be removed with a thermally driven air flow, caused by a heating cable. The thesis includes a number of experimental studies of this method. LÄS MER
12. Promotion of sustainable renovation in the built environment : An early stage techno-economic approach
Sammanfattning : According to the Swedish Government's set targets for energy use and environmental quality imposed by the European Union, the total energy per heated unit area in residential and commercial buildings will have to be decreased by 20% in 2020 and 50% by 2050 in relation to the annual consumption of 1995. The building sector should additionally be completely independent of fossil fuels for energy usage, with the increasing sector of renewable energy continuously growing until 2020. LÄS MER
13. Epidemiology of Physical Activity and Fragility Fractures
Sammanfattning : Fragility fractures mainly affect elderly individuals and often cause long term pain, loss of function and higher mortality rates. Physical activity improves balance, increases muscle strength and bone mineral density, and may reduce the risk of fragility fractures. LÄS MER
14. Juvenile birch in Sweden : Selected stem characteristics for interior and furniture applications
Sammanfattning : In response to the furniture industry’s growing demand for raw material, large volumes of juvenile silver birch and downy birch stems available from pre-commercial thinning operations in Sweden’s forests could offer solutions. However, such stems are not currently used on an industrial scale, and most research conducted on birch stems in general has neither focussed on young trees nor the potential use of the central stem part around the tree pith. 15. Tree phenology modelling in the boreal and temperate climate zones : Timing of spring and autumn events
Sammanfattning : Plant phenology in the boreal and temperate climate zones is synchronised with seasonal changes in temperature and photoperiod. For deciduous trees, timing of budburst and leaf colouring define the growing season length and express adaptations to trade-offs in growth and risks. LÄS MER
