  1. 6. Characterization of PAH-contaminated soils focusing on availability, chemical composition and biological effects

    Författare :Magnus Bergknut; Mats Tysklind; Dag Broman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; PAHs; availability; bioavailability; chemical analysis; characterization; GC-TOFMS; bioassay; toxicity; biological testing; multivariate methods; PCA; PLS; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : The risks associated with a soil contaminated by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are generally assessed by measuring individual PAHs in the soil and correlating the obtained amounts to known adverse biological effects of the PAHs. The validity of such a risk estimation is dependent on the presence of additional compounds, the availability of the compounds (including the PAHs), and the methods used to correlate the measured chemical data and biological effects. 2. 7. Biodegradation of hydrocarbons in soil and water

    Författare :Mikael Eriksson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Solid Phase Microextraction; SPME; biodegradation; bioremediation; bioavailability; monitoring; Volatile Organic Compounds VOC ; Screening; headspace sampling; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; PAHs; aliphatic hydrocarbons; total petroleum hydrocarb;

    Sammanfattning : Biodegradation of aliphatic and polycyclic aromatichydrocarbons was studied in soil and liquid cultures attemperatures ranging from -5 º C to 20 º C undervarious aerobic or anaerobic, nitrate reducing, conditions. Twocontaminated soils were used in the studies. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Cosmic Molecules and Clusters : Knockout Driven Reactions

    Författare :Naemi Florin; Henning Zettergren; Michael Gatchell; Cyril Falvo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Clusters; Fullerenes; PAHs; Knockout; Physics; fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Fullerenes and PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) are two families of carbon based molecules. These are both present in the interstellar medium, and are there believed to play important roles in various processes, including the formation of stars in the case of PAHs. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Traffic-related pollutants in urban snow : Concentrations, size fractionation, and release with snowmelt

    Författare :Arya Vijayan; Maria Viklander; Helene Österlund; Göran Blomqvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Urban snow; Traffic pollution; Suspended solids; Metals; PAHs; Tire and Road wear Particles T RWPs ; Microplastics MPs ; Size fractionation; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering; Centrumbildning - Centrum för dagvattenhantering DRIZZLE ; Centre - Centre for Stormwater Management DRIZZLE ;

    Sammanfattning : In urban areas with seasonal snow, traffic-related pollutants such as solid particles, metals, chloride, organic pollutants, and microplastics (MPs) can be temporarily stored in snowbanks along roads and streets. When the snow melts, it releases the accumulated pollutants and the resulting snowmelt with diverse pollutants may partly infiltrate into the ground, or enter storm sewers and eventually be discharged into, and impact on, the receiving waters. 5. 10. Biomarkers and bioindicators of hypoxia and sediment toxicity in Monoporeia affinis

    Författare :Marie Löf; Brita Sundelin; Tina Elfwing; Elena Gorokhova; Ingela Dahllöf; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biomarkers; Bioindicators; Embryo aberrations; Hypoxia; Contaminated sediment; PAHs; PCBs; Metals; Baltic Sea; Amphipods; Monoporeia affinis; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Two of the most pressing environmental problems in the Baltic Sea are pollution and oxygen deficiency. The aim of this doctoral thesis was to evaluate a set of biomarkers and reproductive variables in the amphipod Monoporeia affinis to test their suitability as indicators of exposure to contaminants and hypoxia.
