6. Generation of Retinal Neurons : Focus on the Proliferation and Differentiation of the Horizontal Cells and their Subtypes
Sammanfattning : We have used the chicken retina as a model for investigating cell cycle regulation and cell fate commitment during central nervous system development. This thesis focuses on the characterization of and commitment to the horizontal cell fate in the retina. LÄS MER
7. Generation of cortical neurons through reprogramming technology
Sammanfattning : The human cortex is affected by several debilitating acute and chronic neurodegenerative disorders such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease, which target specific types of cortical neurons. Emerging evidence indicates that stem cells and reprogrammed cells can be used to generate human cortical neurons both for cell replacement by transplantation, and for disease modeling and drug screening. 8. Exploring Direct Conversion of Human Glia into Therapeutic Neurons
Sammanfattning : Direct neuronal reprogramming of a somatic cell into therapeutic neurons, without a transient pluripotent state, provides new promise for the large number of individuals afflicted by neurodegenerative diseases or brain injury. This approach could be potentially applied directly in the brain by targeting resident cells as a source of new neurons. LÄS MER
9. In vitro cellular models for neurotoxicity studies : neurons derived from P19 cells
Sammanfattning : Humans are exposed to a variety of chemicals including environmental pollutants, cosmetics, food preservatives and drugs. Some of these substances might be harmful to the human body. LÄS MER
10. Dopamine neurons in ventral mesencephalon : interactions with glia and locus coeruleus
Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by a depletion of the dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. The cause of the disease is yet unknown but age, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation are some of the features involved in the degeneration. LÄS MER
